Review for Nj Aid For Animals Inc, Sicklerville, NJ, USA
I have adopted 2 puppies from NJAFA and I know if it weren’t for the fast action and dedication taken by the Founder and President, Kathy McGuire, they most likely would have suffered a horrible life. Selena, my first puppy adopted through NJAFA, was bred from an illegal backyard breeder. She was only about 6 weeks old and weighed less than a pound when NJAFA rescued her. She was so tiny, she had to be bottle fed around the clock and was so infested with fleas, her ears were bloody and scabbed causing infection which could have compromised her immune system and cause death. Thanks to the relentlessness of NJAFA, Kathy McGuire, took legal action to stop another illegal breeder.
My most recent adoption from NJAFA, is a special needs puppy named, Paddington. Kathy was leaving the vets office after a medical visit for a cat that she rescued when she heard a woman complaining about what to do with her puppy. Kathy turned to her and offered to help with medical costs but when the woman took the puppy out of his crate, Kathy couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The puppy suffered from double elbow luxation. Furthermore, he was undernourished and was apparently crated for long periods of time. He didn’t have enough strength to walk on the pads on his front feet so he walked on his wrists. That led to the infection in both dewclaws. After Kathy explained the medical treatment that was needed, the owner surrendered him to NJAFA. NJAFA quickly got Paddington seen by different Orthopedic Surgeon Specialist’s for their opinion to see if surgery was an option for him. After getting X-rays and an MRI, all of the Dr.’s concluded that surgery was not an option for him, there was no guarantee that if the surgery was performed that it would be successful. Once his dewclaws were healed enough, NJAFA enrolled Paddington to Puppy Class, in which he graduated. The Dr.’s all agreed that PT would be most beneficial treatment for him, so NJAFA got him into a PT program where he did water therapy and laser therapy. Once he was cleared from all of his medical needs, we were finally able to bring our baby home where he is flourishing & loved by his parent and his 3 sisters. NJAFA paid for all of his medical expenses. NJAFA also has a fabulous group of volunteers along with the greatest foster mom ever, Eileen Boyle. This nonprofit sponsors benefits and rely’s on donations. NJAFA also offers free vaccine clinics, provides educational material on proper care of pets and hosts benefits throughout the year. Founder and President of NJAFA, Kathy McGuire, is very thorough when placing an animal in a permanent home. She is the biggest advocate for animals I know. She also has a large Corp of Advocates working with her to help as many animals as possible.
