I’ve been fortunate …very fortunate and blessed throughout my life to have good family and role models, access to good education, and a good and supportive environment in which to prosper and grow. My belief system includes that I appreciate the blessings in my life and that I do my best to give back to others in return.

With that in mind, I am fortunate to have been involved with many different charitable and humanitarian organizations over the years. Those connections led me to AFCA and a trip to Africa, and more specifically, Bulawayo Zimbabwe this summer. The expanse of work that AFCA is involved with is broad and impacts not only specific individuals but the broader community in both short term and long term benefits. One of the basic tenets of AFCA is a core belief in “a hand up and not a hand out”. The programs to partner with local resources to build greenhouses to grow food; raise and herd goats, chickens, and other livestock; teach women to sew; build “Loo Love” toilets; and build wells and water storage facilities to provide clean water systems are all ways that improve the overall health of specific individuals but also teach sustainable skills to expand and build a better life for the community at large. The old prophecy of “give a man a fish and feed him for a day but teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime” is never more true of the work that AFCA does.

I can’t say enough about the tireless work that Tanya Weaver and her family, including her adopted family of locals, do for Matopos & the Bulawayo community, including Morning Star Farm, Harvest Family Village, and Sandra Jones Center. The work is overwhelming in scope and the resources required to not only sustain the work completed but also to ensure the work continues on. While Tanya and Eric must feel the weight of the world, or at least this part of the world, is on their shoulders at times, I know they lay their heads down at night with the knowledge that they have made a difference in the lives of the children at the orphanages and the work being done to overcome the abuse and neglect of so many.

I will volunteer again and I will work as hard as I can for as long as I can. I will spread the message of hope and give generously to continue the good work being done by AFCA and the many teams of volunteers from across the globe.

“To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch….to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded”. – Emerson

With much love and respect,
Kimberly Rome Kuhn,

As always I had a fantastic time on my AFCA trip to Zimbabwe. This year I had the added enjoyment of seeing my son and two of his children share the experience. As always the trip was so well organised, even when we had some last minute hiccups like a team member missing their flight into Bulawayo. Morning Star farm was so welcoming and the landscape is amazing. Helping at the orphanages in Bulawayo was so enjoyable. At Chobe National Park we saw so many animals up close and had the surprise of seeing 2 leopards.
If you have ever wanted to see Africa in a safe and enjoyable environment please consider going on a trip like this - and take the kids. They will also have never to be forgotten memories.

I've been volunteering globally for almost 10 years now. I've found AFCA tops the list in so many ways. Yes they do all the things you expect of a a non profit organization who aim to help people in the developing world suffering under the scourge of AIDS. For me they have also provided the opportunity to take my grandchildren on a volunteer trip so they can also experience how their peers live. Most importantly for me, as I get older and cannot do some of the more physical activities AFCA has provided me with a way to continue to help and assist by providing my business skills to their projects in Africa and supporting these people remotely. This is pure magic

I went on humanitarian trip with AFCA to Zimbabwe with my Mother and two eldest children. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives. The kindness given from both the locals and AFCA coordinators was next level and the education we took from this has led me to become an advocate for this group. Some of the real life on the ground experiences were teaching cooking in orphanages, painting playgrounds, built green houses, gardening, reading to children, building water projects, helped/taught farm skills and so much more. More people NEED to do a trip like this to learn that we’re aren’t all entitled screen junkies and give back a little, it’s very rewarding.

I’ve had the distinct pleasure of doing 4 Vacation with a Purpose trips with AFCA and each one of them was an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Kenya with AFCA multiple times and when I say it is live changing, I truly mean that. I have continued to return back to the same community to maintain the relationships and the work we build. AFCA allows for the foundation for people to explore, do that good in the world, and form amazing relationships.
I also have the pleasure to be on the board of directors for AFCA. Through this, I am able to see all of the amazing work that AFCA does throughout some of the most impoverished parts of Africa.

I started working with Tanya and AFCA through a brand partnership. As I got to know Tanya and the organization over the last few years, I was always impressed on how transparent AFCA operates, and how even the smallest of efforts would have great impact directly on the children and the cause. Four years ago I had the opportunity to travel with AFCAids to Zimbabwe, Africa for their Vacation with a purpose trip. It was an unforgettable experience. We were able to help a preschool in the middle of nowhere with the closes paved street was 1 hours away. We painted, fenced, made a play ground in the school and provided some school supplies. We also, painted an orphanage and fixed their chicken coop, because they were going to receive a shipment of chickens form AFCAids, these chicken served for income as they would sell the eggs.

I've been a volunteer with AFCA for about 8 years. AFCA offers Vacations with a Purpose opportunities to go to Africa and work on the projects they fund and support. I have been on several teams with volunteers from all over the globe. People from all walks of life come together to serve with AFCA in local communities that AFCA supports. We have worked on farms, distributed goats, taught local woman sewing skills, provided sanitary products to young girls so they can stay in school, we have set up hospitals and clinics, distributed medicine and food, given training on livestock care, provided seeds and training in conservation gardening. All things to teach and provide sustainable skills so people can live with dignity. I have seen first hand the amazing work of AFCA, a cause worthy of support

Through a gift of livestock, children are able to learn life skills, improve their nutrition, earn school fees and break the cycle of poverty. I have personally seen the benefits of the work AFCA does. Though a small organization, they are able to serve so many through diligently using limited funds to their fullest. I’ve been raising money for the American Foundation for Children with AIDS for two years. I just finished selling bracelets at a local art show. It was a two day “adventure” and I was able to raise $547 for the kids.

I really love being a volunteer for the American Foundation for Children with AIDS because …

It makes me feel good about myself knowing that I’m helping other kids and their families in Africa. I’m always thinking of new ideas to
collect school supplies, medical equipment or money for AFCA to send to Africa.

I really love to make people smile. Sometime I close my eyes at night and I can imagine the kids in Africa smiling because they feel good.

I like being able to tell other kids about being a volunteer. They may not volunteer for AFCA, but they might think about volunteering for kids with cancer or pets without a home.

I love to tell other people about the work they do at AFCA with the money I raise for them … like buying medicine or seeds or goats.

The people in charge at AFCA make me feel like I can make a difference, even if I’m just a kid selling my artwork or bracelets. They send me thank you notes and emails and give me hugs when I see them.

My teachers know about my volunteering and ask me to help in projects at school. They know they can trust me to do a good job. I can’t imagine my life without AFCA. It definitely makes me a better person.

AFCA has been in operation in our community(MIWANI-KENYA) since 2016 helping with project that serve families and children that are either affected or infected by HIV/AIDs here in Kenya. Some of the project they support here are garden project, sisal project, orphanage.

AFCA has also been helping out with some emergency project that have been agent in our community for example, with the COVID-19 pandemic , Restoring hopes was able to provide hand washing stations and soap to 100 households. Also we are able to provide re-usable sanitary towels to unfortunate girls .

AFCA has been a "light" of hope in our community, because of them , many families are able to get their daily meals, children are attending school and our community is thriving.

It give me great pleasure to write a review for AFCAID. To say that AFCAID has been a help to the Sandra Jones Centre is an understatement. Without greenhouses donated through AFCAID we would not have survived these past few years and in these extremely difficult times in Zimbabwe we could not have fed the over 70+ children that we constantly have in our care. As water is so precious here in Zimbabwe the greenhouses have enabled us to conserve water and protect the crops from animals and birds as well as the elements.

Tanya Weaver has been an absolute gem and a wonderful support to us. She is professional and a real pleasure to work with. She has gone above and beyond with her assistance: helping with proposals, collecting essential medical supplies from people all over the USA and bringing them over in her luggage for us. She really hears us when we share with her our hopes and concerns and offers wise counsel when we need it….her commitment and integrity are second to none. She is such an encourager and her heart is so genuine. The children are always so excited to see her and she has made a real impression on them so they never forget her and welcome her excitedly each visit! In fact one of our girls named her baby after Tanya!! A real testament to the impression Tanya has made on so many of our girls. Through her we see AFCAID not only as donors but as friends. And we will be forever grateful for all they have done for the Sandra Jones Centre.

I took a trip to Zimbabwe with AFCA in June 2019. The direct impact of the organization is way beyond what i could have imagined. We spent time providing resources to individuals with varying levels of need - from education (orphanage classrooms) to vocational training (teaching brand new sewing skills, agriculture with the donation of greenhouses) to life sustaining provisions (AFCA's goat program where those eligible get a chance at basically a new life with the acquisition of goats for their family and community). These examples are only a small portion of what AFCA accomplishes. I can't express strongly enough the impact AFCA is having on the communities they serve.

AFCA is THE BEST. I am an extremely proud volunteer and avid supporter. I discovered AFCA in 2010 while volunteering on another non-profit project in Nepal. Some of my teammates had experience as AFCA volunteers, and their AFCA T-shirts prompted me to ask questions about this organization. The way they beamed with joy and excitement telling me about the amazing work AFCA does, was telling this was something very special and unique.

I got the general mission from them, 'helping children in sub-saharan Africa who are infected or affected by AIDS', which in truth is too summarial to define the magnitude, dimension, heart, and reach of this organization and their work. It captured my interest, I read their website, followed on social media - and fell deeply in love with their commitment to the children and the thoughtful, sustainability of their programs. The efforts to minimize costs and get every dollar and every item donated into the hands of those most in need is of the highest moral standard. It truly is all about the kids and paths to brighter futures for the most severely underserved.

In 2018 I finally grabbed my passport and joined an AFCA team in Zimbabwe for some first-hand, hands-dirty involvement in the work I had admired from afar for many years. Our work was to support 2 of their initiatives 1. placing greenhouses in orphanages for sustainable food sourcing, agricultural education, and a little income from the extra too! (I should mention this is not an ordinary orphanage, the children are loved, educated academically and vocationally and are raised to be strong, engaged, and even leaders in their community despite their horrific experiences prior to arriving there) 2. working at a goat farm which supports the Kids4Kids program, in which pregnant goats are donated to families in dangerous need of nutrition and a 'hand up'. They will grow their flock, they will eat healthy veggies from the seeds AFCA provided and the fertilizer from the goats, they will drink the milk and they will have a resource for school fees which are too often a luxury that can not be afforded. They are given training and they are required to return goats to the program in the years to come to 'pay forward' the positive life changes brought about by their new lifestyle. In a country where a harsh reality is that money can't buy food even if money were to be had somehow, these programs are a godsend. If it sounds like I am a bit obsessed with these programs it is true. I have seen first hand the impact and it is INCREDIBLE. It works!

For 2 weeks I worked, laughed, cried, ate, shared stories with the other volunteers, and watched AFCA at work. One tiny slice of their ongoing, incessant passion for simply helping people who really need it. No agenda, just pure heart. Everything is done with love, compassion, respect and a common thread of humans helping humans just because they care. It is beautiful.

I've merely scratched the surface here of the full scope of the work being done by AFCA as they do so much more than "just" goats and greenhouses. They are dedicated and mighty with their souls and will never stop helping as long as there is kindness to be spread. I can't wait to be a part of it again as I am fully addicted and pleased to have grabbed a spot on the Zimbabwe 2020 team! (see photo my joy says it all!)

My name Is Mell Jones and I live in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. I first came across AFCA about 5 years ago when I met Tanya who was getting ready to visit different projects that she had set up in and around Matabeleland. When I first asked I couldn't believe how much work Tanya had accomplished almost single handed.
Tanya Weave and I are now personal friends and every year I get the great privilege of being able to help coordinate a little bit of what her team does. I have seen first hand many of the projects that AFCA have begun and continue to support and grow in and around Zimbabwe and heard many of the testimonies of the people who's lives have been turned around by their amazing work. From Goat projects (often her teams build the goat pens), so teaching sewing classes to girls who can no longer attend school because of financial restraints on their families, to gardening and green houses and so the list goes on. AFCA's passion for helping children and changing lives can only be described as inspirational and wonderful. I feel so honored to be a very small part of this work. Thank you Tanya for all you and your family do! We love and appreciate each one of you!

The American Foundation for Children with AIDs is an organization that will be apart of me for the rest of my lifetime. My first experience with this incredible organization began in Zimbabwe, I was 20 years old. We served in remote villages and busy cities; building, fixing, painting, and improving preschools and orphanages. We played with, and held, and loved on young children and babies whose lives have been impacted by HIV/AIDs. I went on this trip the summer before I began nursing school and I promised myself I would return one day with a broader personal tool box to offer. Fast forward two years and I found myself with a Nursing license and a plane ticket to Kenya to serve as a nurse in a clinic aiding people of all ages, most of whom are affected and/or infected with HIV/AIDS. I stayed there for three weeks, treating and educating the community members of Miwani, alongside their local doctor. At 22 years old, this was one of the most difficult, beautiful, heartbreaking, and encouraging experiences of my life. The vision that AFCA has gives me hope for these people. These children. The clinic had only been open a few months when I arrived, and hearing their hopes, dreams, and goals for that space brought tears to my eyes. Moved by the thought of the healing this place, and these people, will continue to provide.
Not only does AFCA do a whole lot of good, but it is also run by really good people. You can’t help but catch their passion, it is so genuine and contagious. From the people who are behind it all in the US, to the partners and representatives of a number of African countries, these people are one of a kind. They make 9,000 miles away feel like home. They have mastered "work hard, play hard", making it possible to make an impact and explore the world all in one trip. I can’t give enough praise for this organization and the people that make it all happen.

Isaiah changed my life. In 2006, I found myself in Uganda, visiting a place that should not exist in our era - a starvation ward. This is a place where starving children are taken, with the desperate hope that they will get healthy again. Many times, though, it is too late and some babies and toddlers survive and some don't.

While visiting this place, I had the privilege of holding baby Isaiah during his last minutes here on earth. He was tiny, so very tiny, and was too light to believe. His malnutrition was too far advanced and he couldn’t process food. It was obvious his little body couldn't hold on for much longer and that he was done fighting, so I rocked him until he was gone.

Children should NOT die of hunger. It's that simple. They should not die of something as preventable as hunger. On that day, I vowed to make sure that the American Foundation for Children with AIDS, the organization with whom I was in Uganda, would provide food for children under their care if they needed it. An entire new program was born in honor of baby Isaiah and now, not only does the organization give nutritional supplements when needed, but they also provide livestock, seeds and trainings to AIDS orphans so that they can become self-reliant and never be hungry again.

From rolling bandages for shipment to organizing a warehouse full of medical supplies to delivery of those supplies in Africa, the fiscal responsibility of the leadership is outstanding. I consider it a privilege to be able to volunteer with AFCA. While my time is typically focused on supporting the organizations medical initiatives, it is inspiring to see this organization and its leadership continually expand its vision beyond supporting the medical needs of children affected by HIV and AIDS. Their expanding scope of support speaks to the positive cultural changes occurring in the communities supported support by AFCA. More than simply surviving, children and families are flourishing. As a direct result, many children and adults have been afforded the opportunity to attend school, learn trades, and live in a sustainable community. The stewardship of AFCA leadership, in striving to thriving communities rather than reliant communities, is to be commended. With this in mind, I know my small efforts reap exponential rewards. Thank you AFCA for allowing me to contribute to your work!

I first began working with AFCA seven years ago. It is the first NGO with which I worked that dealt with HIV/AIDS in Africa. I was extremely impressed with their innovative approach to helping children with HIV/AIDS and their families. Since that time, I have worked with numerous other NGOs, some larger, some smaller. AFCA still stands out for its effective and innovative approach to implementing programs that have measurable impact. Additionally, as others have commented, they do it with very limited financial resources, effectively using volunteers, in-kind contributions, and, importantly, tireless and dynamic leadership from the Executive Director. Working with her and the organization is always very gratifying.

I volunteered with AFCA almost 10 years ago and am just amazed by the ways the organization has grown over the years while remaining very true to their mission.

AFCA runs an incredible organization, with lean administrative overhead and effective programing, they dynamically tackle the huge issue of children infected and affected by AIDS in Africa. I continue to discover aspects of their programming that surprise me by being well-thought out. They are serious about trying to work themselves out of a job, but wherever there is a need, AFCA steps in in a sustainable way. It's an honor to work with AFCA.

AFCA is a wonderful organization both in results for HIV+ children, and in the way it treats volunteers. Every time I show up to help, they have meaningful work for me to do. Within just a few weeks, shipping containers loaded, bandages rolled, boxes pack, arrive in Africa for the support of kids with AIDS. It amazing to see videos and photos of something we packed with our own hands being put to use in hospitals and clinics. AFCA never wastes my time or donations they receive.

AFCA truly helps the people they work with. They not only help children with aids but they provide them with sustainable means to break the cycle of it within their communities. They really go above and beyond for the people they help.

This is an excellent non profit organization that really helps people. Not only do they help children with aids, but they are teaching people how to be self sufficient by teaching animal husbandry and farming to people in Africa. I truly admire the work that they do.

We have no idea the burdens others bear on a daily basis. This summer I had the opportunity to see first hand some of the challenges others face.

Thankfully AFCA is doing something about it. AFCA sends aid to sub-Saharan Africa which saves and improves lives of HIV+ children and their guardians. After hearing about AFCA from a high school friend I decided to volunteer in the fall of 2012 at AFCA's warehouse. That morning we loaded cargo containers with medical supplies headed for Africa. In August of this year I traveled to Tanzania to attempt to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro in support of AFCA's Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up program. My time on the mountain was the experience of a lifetime (so far). The funds raised by my team and I were used to provide lifesaving medicine to children in need. Following my time on the mountain I traveled to Mombasa, Kenya to visit a clinic supported by AFCA. While I was in Mombasa I spent a day walking through the local community, visiting some of the people who are supported by the program. I realized on this day the tremendous obstacles some folks face in regards to simply surviving each day. I also realized the tremendous impact AFCA makes in the lives of the people I met. I am glad to be a part of AFCA and the generous and life changing work they are continuing to do. I saw a glimmer of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation, and every day more lives are impacted positively from the support of AFCA.

I became involved with AFCA through volunteering with my son's scout troop donating time to organize medical supplies in the warehouse to be shipped to aid clinics in Africa. Having been involved in many non-profit organizations over the years, I couldn't help but be touched by the true good AFCA was accomplishing. I continued to become more involved by gathering donated supplies from hospitals, civic clubs and personal friends who wanted to help. Feeling incredibly inspired by the difference AFCA makes, I jumped at the chance to participate in "Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up" and our family raised money to directly benefit AFCA and the clinics they serve in Africa. I personally had the privilege of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro last summer AND afterward, visiting one of the clinics we raised money for in Mombasa, Kenya. To actually SEE the contributions, so generously given, being used in such a valuable way... improving the quality of life for young children who are HIV+. KNOWING that we are accountable as well as effectively and efficiently helping to truly SAVE LIVES. You cannot describe seeing people being treated who may have never seen a doctor otherwise...in the poorest parts of the world. AFCA is working...and I will continue to support knowing that after spending time with these children, WE CAN make a difference. Friday, we will be loading a cargo container to be shipped to Africa and I will be there helping and thinking of those children in Kenya, and my heart will be warm.

I traveled to Mombasa, Kenya from June 22 to July 3rd. I was nervous at first to meet my teammates as we had all come from different states and did not know one another. The first house that we constructed was for a woman named Judith and her 1 year old daughter Zawadi. Our team quickly got to work constructing a new home for them to live in and it was amazing to see how much we as a team pulled up our sleeves and worked side by side with the villagers to make sure that this was done not only for Zawadi, but for her mother as well. I will never forget Judith's words as she looked at her new home..."Now I haved up in the world". And this house was just a humble dwelling, something that we as Americans don't understand. We have running water. We have the basic necessities. I came home with a new appreciation for what I have. Sure, my "powder room" isn't what you see in the Better Homes and Garden Magazines, but at least I know where my next meal is coming from.

Our team leader Val was awesome! She and her husband Nick took time to get to know the team members as well.

I was happy to return home to my family in the U.S. But I did so with a much greater appreciation of what we have in the United States. If you really want to change your life, and others in the procress than to get in contact with AFCA and see how YOU can change a LIFE for the better

My wife traveled with AFCA this past year to Kenya to help build two houses for families who did not have adequate housing. While she was there, my wife also was able to see the effects of previous AFCA support in the form of a large Greenhouse which AFCA assisted in building to help the people grow there own food. The more involved my family becomes with AFCA, the more we realize how since they are and how muck actual help they provide to individuals and entire communities which are less fortunate than us.

For the past 5 years, AFCA has come alongside and encouraged both us (EFCA ReachGlobal)and our church partner in Congo (CECU). The have been amazing in partnering with us to attain our mission. Here are just some of the ways that they have served us and the CECU church in Ubangi, Congo:
1. Over the past 3 years, they have totally funded two large training seminars to better equip medical personnel and the Church in their battle against HIV and AIDS. They connected us with excellent African teachers, Kenyan doctors, and paid all of their expenses to train our medical personnel. These were 10 day seminars, and all expenses were paid by AFCA. The seminars were excellent, on the following topics:
a. General HIV and AIDS education for health professionals
b. PMCT of HIV – this was an incredible training, bringing together health professionals and local midwives and village chiefs.
2. Over these past 5 years, AFCA has been providing HIV testing kits as well as antibiotics for HIV positive children in our health centers and hospital. These supplies are sent every quarter, as the medical director at Tandala Hospital provides the reporting and order for the following 3 months.
3. Just recently, I was in Congo when a container full of medical supplies arrived at the port in Akula, Congo. Just the shipping of this container cost tens of thousands of dollars alone! The supplies had to be transported by a 20 ton truck in two loads, and I was at Tandala Hospital when the unloading happening. It was a joyful time as I watched the staff, so grateful for the beds, medicines, bandages, birthing kits, sutures, instruments. Beautiful solar panels and water filters were sent out…after the Director for AFCA, Tanya Weaver, visited some of the health centers a couple of years ago, she was amazed that nurses were delivering babies with a flashlight! And that none of them had good, clean water to offer at their clinics. Thus, the solar panels and water filters. The supplies filled a whole storage area – the doctor and staff who oversee the outlying health centers are delivering the beds, solar panels, and birthing kits to around 16 health centers.
4. AFCA has also provided livestock and seed to help those who are living with HIV and have children who are HIV positive. Through these gifts, they provide some income for these families, and a better nutrition for those who are often sick.

We cannot thank AFCA enough for all they have and are doing in our corner of Congo, and area basically without electricity and clean, running water. AFCA has visited and traveled in our area a couple of times, and are planning another trip. When in Congo, they endure harsh living conditions and difficult – next to impossible! – travel. But they want to make sure their supplies are making it to the right people, and they want to listen and hear the needs of the Congolese themselves.

Thank you, AFCA, for your heart of comassion and desire to equip those around the world so that lives can be changed!

I have been involved with many non-profit organizations over the years, and without a doubt, AFCA is the best of them all. I became involved at its inception based on the reputation and incredible talent of its Executive Director, Tanya Weaver, and am proud to be involved with it still today. This is a small organization that achieves monumental things on behalf of the children with AIDS they serve in eastern Africa. A small staff supported by an army of dedicated volunteers makes it all happen. I have traveled to visit many of their in-country partners and have witnessed first-hand the results of their tireless work. This is an organization that I support unequivocally!

I just returned from leading an AFCA Vacation with a Purpose volunteer team to Mombasa Kenya. Our team worked with AFCA's partner there - Mombasa Community Based Health Care program - to rebuild a home an HIV+ child su[[orted by AFCA who is living in horrible conditions in the slums. AFCA does a stellar job of selecting in-country partner programs that really achieve results, and Mombasa CBHC is just one such organization. It was a very successful trip and one of many more to come, we hope!

I had never hear of AFCA until a friend invited me to help sort medical supplies in their warehouse one day. I couldn't believe the people I met there and the care they gave to ensure that everything was correctly packed for Africa. I saw and touched the work of the charity. I wish I could go on one of their trips to Africa to volunteer and work alongside their African partners. I have been a donor for many years now, as well as a volunteer. I joined the board of AFCA after volunteering for them for the last two years and seeing first hand how they help the children of Africa. I became so impressed with the fact that they are always helping the many groups they work with towards self-sufficiency. Helping them to help themselves. Each solution is unique to them. It might be herds of goats in Zimbabwe, or greenhouses to grow food in Kenya. They learn exactly what a specific group needs and try to find the best way to help them. Once they are able to provide for themselves then AFCA moves on. One of the best charities I have seen.

I have been VERY IMPRESSED with this non profit ! So much so that I have been a regular donor ! They give 93% of what they take in to the kids they serve ! I have been VERY IMPRESSED that this organization is NOT a welfare program ! But partners with other organizations to educate kids , they also started something like a heifer program . So the kids are educated HOW to take care of the animals and are able to feed themselves !
I am extremely fussy where I give my money ! We work very very HARD for our money ! And in this day and age ! Well you have to TRUST where you are giving your money !
I have THOROUGHLY gone over this organization with a fine TOOTH comb ! I was EXTREMELY impressed that this organization has a badge on its Web site ! Rating it as one of the BEST non profits in America ! I found that ONLY two THOUSAND out of a million non profits gets this honor !! From this consumer action group !

A couple of years ago I heard Sr Veronica of Mombasa, Kenya tell the moving story of AFCA's help to her work. Sister Veronica talked about support over many years, and support that changed in relation to the changing needs for HIV+ kids. It was an amazing testimonial to true charitable action. I have supported this charity financially since then, and I'm only sorry that I have so little to give. Thank you Tanya Weaver for making so much care available to so many children.

In terms of "direct return on investment" it is hard for me to imagine a more effecient and effective organization than AFCA. If you are looking for a charity who is responsible with your donations, diligent in following the rules and regulations, promotes respect for all, seeks only the best for their recipients and all in all lives to provide the best care and promote avenues for long and heathy lives, AFCA is the charity for you. It was my sincere pleasure to have the opportunity to visit many of the distribution sights and their clients in 2009. It was an amazing experience to see exactly how the ARV's, antibiotics, nutritional suppliments, and many, many other things are distributed. The care given by the heath care orginazations who have been chosen by AFCA to distribute the aid, is a wonder to see. They work daily with these children and their families giving medical help but also educating, supporting and loving them. AFCA is a wonderful organization dedicated to using every penny, nickel and dime raised in the fight to end the suffering brought on by AIDS. The board of directors are all volunteers and the organization maintains an extremely low over head with only 1 full time staff member and I believe 1 part time helper. I am proud to be involved with this organization wnd would heartily recomend it to anyone wanting to become involved with something truly fullfilling.

Our church did a collection of Rx bottles to help them distribute the medications that are needed. It was an easy thing for us to do to help those in need. Our church was blessed with a visit from Sister Veronica Wanjiru Mwaura and Nurse Lucy Nyaga who are from the Mombasa CBHC & AIDS Relief Project in Kenya and partner with AFCA. Their visit inspired us to raise money which went towards food for the HIV+ patients so they can take their medication. We also did a collection of prescription bottles to be used to dispense that medication. We continue to work with this life-changing organization by rolling bandages to be shipped to hospitals who request them in Uganda, Congo and Kenya. The bandages are used for children and adults who are in need of these because the hospitals and clinics do not have enough supplies to treat their patients. These bandages can be washed if necessary and reused, which makes them valuable.

I hope to work with AFCA for many years to come. They are saving children's lives. There is nothing more important than that.

Even though AFCA has been around only for the past few years, the dedication and determination of the founders and volunteers has made it grow in leaps and bounds, specifically in terms of the direct implementation they have achieved at the field level in Africa . Iam very proud to be part of this organization as a volunteer . They have minimal staff but maximum outreach. What makes it special is that its specifically targeted at the children suffering with AIDS in Africa. It’s a well balanced and focused program , providing holistic support to the community in Africa. As a volunteer I love the transparency they maintian regarding the program implementation by constantly keeping us updated about new programs, achievements and needs. AFCA stands apart from other non-profits is several ways. There are only 2 paid staff; one part time. So the donations are NOT going to pay the CEO a salary of millions of dollars. The money is spent on the children who desperately need help. They can accomplish this feat by the many volunteers that pitch in to make a difference. Surplus medical equipment and supplies are donated by hospitals. Linens are donated by nursing homes. Beds are donated by Universities. AFCA scronges supplies so that as much money as possible goes to buying life-saving medications. What other charity can claim that?

I come from Papoli village, some 130 miles East of Kampala in Uganda-Africa, where the great work of AFCA is seen, felt and experienced by members of our village and beyond.

AFCA has contributed enormously to our work of supporting and treating children and families infected and affected by HIV AIDS at our Safehouse-The Robert H Cooley Pediatric clinic, supported over 3,200 kids in our preschool , primary school and 5 other neighboring schools with scholastic materials, school bags, classroom and teacher supplies, school bags with supplies, sanitary pads for the girlchild who would initially miss one third of class during periods,Professional skills training for nurses and doctors, Medical supplies for the village clinic, Tororo Hospital, Mulanda Health centre 4, Mbale Regional referral hospital and walking aids for people with disabilities.

These donation are life saving and life improving for all the target groups and for all these the people of Papoli and surrounding communities remain so greatful to God for this wonderful support from people they do not even know and this reinforces their believe in their God, for providing when life is at its’ lowest.
