My father and mother were looking for a respite/personal care facility where they could live together until my father received a hip replacement. The Philadelphia Protestant Home was highly recommended to us by a friend. When my mother and I arrived for a tour we were greeted by Kim McGeary, someone I would consider to be an excellent representative of PPH. Kim's kind and cheerful demeanor immediately made my mother feel comfortable and at ease; as the anxiety brought on by the thought of leaving her home, even though it was to be a short-term stay of a few months, had her feeling very anxious. Both my mother and I were so impressed by the friendliness of the staff and how they seemed to really care for the residents. It was evident that they treat the residents more like family than patients. During our tour we were told about the multitude of activities and events available to all residents. Home cooked meals in the facility's dining room excited my father who has a hearty appetite. PPH is very nice and clean and well maintained - a lovely facility indeed. When my mother saw the double-room she and my father would be sharing it was freshly painted but empty as the room had just been renovated. However, Kim assured us that they would provide all furnishings from window treatments, wall mounted TVs, lift chairs for their sitting area and more. We would also have the ability to make it "their room", by bringing in items from home. In that I cannot be with my mother and father every day, I left feeling my mother and father would be well cared for during their stay and I knew we need look no further. I am confident that The Philadelphia Protestant Home will make a great home away from home for my parents!

Due to a debilitating urinary tract infection my husband needed Respite Care and as fully paid members of a Human Good community we were accommodated in the Assisted Living section. After the Respite Care time was up he continued to stay in the same room for several more weeks while recuperating, all the while paying the rate of assisted care for the room. I requested my husband be moved to a fully designated Assisted Care room as he continued to improve, and I was assured his name was on "the list" for this. Then, Westminster Gardens offered an inappropriate shared room in Memory Care (a locked down, Covid infected facility) which did not meet our needs. The crass agenda of HumanGood/Westminster Gardens showed itself as they then announced in a HumanGood team meeting with myself and the state Ombudsman for Elder Care that my only option next for my husband was the room in Memory Care not one in Assisted Living, or I could take him home or find an outside facility to help us. The CEO at WG stated their agenda was all about 'selling' the inappropriate room to me for my husband because they were not going to accommodate him in the level I requested. Of course their agenda benefits HumanGood by thousands of dollars at our expense and cuts off our avenue to appropriate care as my husband has rebounded remarkable well after the infection. In fact now he is home and needs little or no care from others . My husband was to be denied what should have been coming to him in Assisted Liviing level because HumanGood/Westminster Gardens wanted to "SELL" a room in Memory Care. Once again we see the almighty dollar as the bottom line with this so called non-profit. What a disgrace. Beware before you sign any contracts with HumanGood. They do not have your best interest at heart!

I would NOT recommend Serving Seniors of Scranton (area includes Monroe and Pike counties) for 3 reasons based on experience.
1) The Ombudsman job description is to be Impartial when receiving complaints. When I contacted the Ombudsman they actually made false accusations against me the family member. It's not a good look when the Ombudsman just repeats something false from the Senior Living Center that I'm complaining about. The Senior Living Center whose former employees say "they will lie to your face" in reviews about the organization. I was hoping to receive caring and investigation as advertised for our loved one who is a resident. I don't call the Ombudsman when the senior residence is stepping on someone's toes - I contact the Ombudsman when there are multiple blatant violations that I have documentation for.
2) The services are advertised as confidential. I didn't see that happen during the complaint process. I filed a complaint, and when we spoke there were references regarding my loved one like the Ombudsman simply asked the senior living center their side of the story and they lied and the Ombudsman ran with that. Also after the complaint the senior residence had actions that appear to be directly in response to the complaint.
3) I had no idea there is a setting of Retaliation by the senior residence after getting a complaint. We experienced that and it was detrimental to the family and tragic for our loved one the resident. Reaching out to the Ombudsman probably made it worse for our loved one's experience instead of better.
It was very disillusioning to find that the safety net for residents did not exist for our loved one. I hope future families don't experience the pain we did. Our experience certainly showed what really goes on at senior living centers (at least the one in NEPA) and that the Ombudsman doesn't seem to be there to hold them accountable in order to protect residents.
