Far exceeds my expectations for a jazz radio station, listen every morning on my one-hour commute into Newark...KSW

One of the first times I got involved with GlassRoots was in arranging an event for Girl Scouts from the city of Newark to participate in making beads in the open flame workshop and making coasters in the flat glass workshop. Not only were the staff members and volunteers great with the girls, but the girls all made great artwork, had a wonderful time, and were able express themselves through their art work. And, best of all they were able to take the art home to share! Working with the staff there was great in setting up the program and being flexible, especially when a snow storm hit that day. I have worked with and in non profits for roughly 15 years and was immediately impressed by their professionalism and passion, making it easy to accept the offer to join their Board.

I've known Michael and Maria for 23 years. Their love for Newark is unparalleled. They sacrificially give of themselves because of their deep love for Jesus Christ and the people of Newark.

Already a very successful job development and placement agency in New York City for many years, Blessed Ministeries, Inc (BMI) started working in urban Essex County in the State of New Jersey in the Spring of 2009. Their goal was to work with the hardest-to- place individuals who reside in Newark, especially substance abusers in treatment most of who are convicted felons. In under six months, BMI placed over 100 individuals in jobs averaging $9 an hour with retention rates at 180 days of about 75%. This very productive agency, led by its talented leader - Sean Lacon - helped dispel a myth endemic in Newark and BMI proved that even in the midst of one of the worse recessions in our lifetimes, employers are willing to hire convicted felons with sustance abuse disorders when these individuals are appropriately screened, matched with the right job, and provided with regular support. This is one more example of the outstanding job BMI has done over the years in New York and now Jersey.

Do not use funds as they stated they would and do not provide ANY financial reporting. Money grabbers who take over other organization funds so the CEO and Mayor can use them for their own desires.

I grew up to know the edo people especially the BINIS to be a custodian of great and revered culture. A culture that shape and mold behavioural pattern of both the young and the old in the community, a culture that frowns at and condemn immoral acts, laziness a culture which foster unity among its people, an enviable culture that gives premium to the force of moral rectitude, respect for one another care for our family units and of cause a culture that says do unto others as you would want others to do unto you.<br><br>My dear people of Edo Club of New Jersey! I believe i will not be wrong if i assert that, this great club was founded and woven into the the great Benin culture and values. I will also be correct to say that its operations and what its represents as a social-cultural phenomenon is nothing short of the great Benin cultural values and heritage which has been the envy of not only other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, but across the global hemisphere.<br><br>Home and away the Edo people detest and condemn not just adultery, but an attempt at adultery, incest taboo and other similar vice. In short among the edo people, a man who make in appropriate advances towards his friends wife, his brothers wife etc is considered insane and would require some urgent mental examination!<br><br>This is why it is most appalling to hear about the recent scandalous allegations against a principal officer ..I mean a sitting member of the EXCO of this great club. This scandal which is already out there with evidences, has not only gone virile but has equally elicited other hidden scandalous act perpetrated by this same untamed.... he-goat..with no apology.. because among the binis when a man lacks the ability to control his sexual desires, and put his manhood in check, such a man is metaphorically refer to as "Ovbukhor" (HE GOAT).<br><br>EDO CLUB of New jersey i want you to consider this a wake up call... wake up from your slumber and take necessary and appropriate action that this development deserve in order to prevent the name of this great club and by extension the names of his credible members being smear and drag to the mud. You must not allow the good and respected name of the club which has taken collective effort of all the good members of the club to build over the years to be tarnish by just the attitude of a singular member who decide to make the most abominable choice of going after his first cousin's enshrined wife here in the State of New Jersey.....This man has failed the club, his family, and the church he worship.....he profess to be a christian and an elder in a church located within the periphery of the city of Newark NJ<br><br>Gentlemen this is not in the best interest of this club, not in the best interest of the entire benin/edo community in NJ and the US in general. The perpetrator of this act must be tamed and punish appropriately. <br>I have fulfilled my part.<br><br>Thank you.

For a small non profit, Bessie Green Community makes a difference in lives Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Bessie opens the doors of North Reformed Church, 510 Broad Street, Newark to welcome in people who need a hearty breakfast and a warm lunch. It is called the Red Door by the friends who come frequently. That is because the church has a big red door. People come in about 9 or 9:30 for coffee and breakfast put together by Bruce Graham the chef. They can stick around and read the paper, talk with friends or put their head on the table and catch a few zzzzz's. Lunch is delicious and served at 11:30 or 12. <br><br>If you're not hungry but need some groceries to take home for hungry kids, there is a food pantry and someone, usually Pedro will round up a bag for you. <br><br>A well stocked Clothing Barn is on the second floor and is open on Tuesday's and Thursdays. We had a huge selection of winter coats that were welcomed and given out in record time. So thankful for all the folk that helped stock our winter selection.

I have seen the difference the organization has made, providing a positive impact to youngmen for decades. The organization supports the Sigma Beta Club, a youth mentoring group, created by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Local clubs meet on a weekly basis, conduct field trips, and conferences. Many members finish high school and later go onto graduate college. I have been so impressed by the organizations results I became an ardent volunteer and financial supportor.

This organization helped no one! It has only assisted the greedy to line their and associates' pockets with a paycheck, It was and still is a joke. It is run by a bunch of incompetents, <br>I am a former employee who worked there for a few years. I was laid off "due to budget cuts". But I was let go do to my constant reminders and documentation of impropriety actions and procedures,

The Islamic Society of Essex County has been providing free tutoring for community youths of all faiths for past 2 years! The tutors are exceptional and the enviorment very inviting. My grandsons teachers saw the great improvement in them almost immediately! I can't thank them enough!!!

For more than 30 years, ACNJ has been New Jersey's 'go-to' organization for business leaders and policy makers when it comes to issues affecting children. Through its "Kids Count" project, leaders at ACNJ have worked to collect, compile and present quantitative information about the status of children in our state, allowing law makers to make data-driven decisions about programs and services for children. Recent victories at ACNJ have resulted in improvements in funding for high quality child care, and for expansion of our state's school breakfast program. I am a proud board member and supporter - I like knowing that my annual donation to ACNJ goes beyond direct service to build a better system for all children.

I have had dealings with Popcorn Park AHS for 20 years. The workers and techs have always been polite, caring, and professional often going out of their way to do whatever is needed to aide all of these beautiful animals. <br>My girl, Makai was barking up a storm when we visited, but a young lady named Beth talked us into giving her a chance. Makai, who recently passed was the best dog I ever had in my 61 year long life. Everyone who ever met her thought the same way about her. She was that special. Thank you, Beth for convincing us about how Makai was one of a kind. We miss her every day.<br>We also got our little guy, Thor from Popcorn Park. Not perfect, but we love him anyway.

This organizations values and committment to the people of Newark is un parallelled to others, the people actually care and do follow ups with the people they serve. I have not been to an agency that really gives personal attention and goes the distance to make sure the people are served with dignity and pride.

Aish Hatorah spreads judaism to all jews. It is an open-minded caring organization that recognizes the important need to share the special culture to our jewish brethren that are as of yet unaffiliated. I have benefited from their teaching as well as been a 'giver'. judaism is shared on a level that each person can understand and gain from.
