This organization is dishonest and unprofessional. Do not work with them or donate to their organization. They do not care properly for their animals or the human beings that they deal with during the adoption process. They were going to release a puppy one day after spay surgery and then adopted out the same puppy four days after it was diagnosed with Parvo. I am not sure whether they made the adopters aware of the condition.
They initially corresponded with me about adopting this puppy on a Monday and Tuesday when I submitted paperwork to begin the adoption process. They talked about a possible home visit on Saturday. They told me they would have to wait and see if it was old enough to be spayed on Thursday if not we'd have to wait another week. A volunteer texted me Thursday morning and said that the puppy would be spayed, we set a meeting time for the following morning on Friday and they said that I may possibly be taking the puppy home with me that day. I went shopping for necessities at PetSmart spending hundreds of dollars. I also cancelled a trip I had planned for that weekend in hopes of adopting this puppy. They then cancelled the appt. for Friday morning stating that the dog was lethergic that evening and needed to recover over the weekend from the spay surgery. I understood. Then the following morning I was notified that the puppy had tested positive for Parvo and that it wasn't looking good and could be a week or more before the puppy could be adopted. I offered to assist in any way possible including covering the treatment costs. They did not take that offer but directed me to their website donation link. Later the same night, I received a video of the puppy stating that it was feeling much better. They planned on taking it to the vet and getting it cleared for adoption. I responded the following morning on Sat, saying I was happy that the puppy was feeling better and that I appreciated the update. There was no further communication from the rescue until I texted Tuesday morning to check on the puppy and see how she was doing. Later that afternoon they let me know that they had taken her to the vet on Monday and she was adopted out to another family that was willing to take the puppy sight unseen and even with it being sick. I believe I had said the same to them and they totally ripped the rug right out from under me without letting me know they had taken the puppy to the vet or that she was now cleared for adoption. They completely gave me the runaround and were totally dishonest and unprofessional.
This morning I contacted the Spay and Neuter Alliance that they use in Sumner County, TN and they stated that they would never think that a rescue would adopt out a puppy one day after spay surgery. I guess they were unaware that these adoption transactions are actually being organized and orchestrated in there back parking lot by Freetown Farm Sanctuary and the owner.
They tried to say that they contacted me on Saturday and I did not respond which is completely untrue. My text to the volunteer on Saturday morning was the last correspondence between me and anyone associated with their organization until I heard back from them on Tuesday afternoon.
I have spoken with other rescues and they have said there's no way they should have adopted out a puppy with Parvo only four days after it tested positive.
I had further correspondence with the volunteer on Tuesday afternoon and evening and she never apologized for the confusion and mistake and for not notifying me about the status of the puppy or that they had changed directions and made a decision to adopt the puppy out to another applicant. I was never made aware and there was never any indication that there was anyone else interested in adopting this puppy.
I urge you not to work with this organization. I am doing to my best to not allow them to disrespect another perspective adopter or mishandle the pet adoption process again.
