Review for Soldiers' Angels, San Antonio, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The very first day that I heard about Soldiers' Angels I logged in to the website www.soldiersangels.org and adopted my first deployed serviceman. He was a sailor depolyed to Iraq. The commitment was to write a letter every week and send 1-2 care packages per month during deployment. Angels are informed to not expect to hear back, but I must say there is nothing better than a letter or email from your adoptee. Since then I have had the honor to support many soldiers, marines and my 1st special sailor.

In additon to "adoptions" Soldiers' Angels provided the opportunity to organize fund raisers and events for our wounded and veterans in our community. Rewarding - YES. One person can make a difference, but volunteering for this great organization makes it easier and creates even a greater impact.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I was at the Veterans Museum and a young Marine tapped me on the shoulder after noticing my Soldiers' Angels t-shirt. He was sitting in a wheel chair as a bi-lateral amputee. The hero said "excuse me mam, are you a real Soldiers' Angel? I would like to thank you for giving me this back pack when I arrived at the hospital." On the back of his chair was the 1st Response back pack we provide with personal care items, socks, boxers and tshirt.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Work on the website for easier communication of events and needs.

Role:  Volunteer & I wrote personal letters to the deployed, organized holiday care package drives, served the wounded dinner, welcomed home the troops, provided support at Stand Down for homeless Vets and hosted baby showers for soon to be military moms.
