Review for Soldiers' Angels, San Antonio, TX, USA
I started volunteering with Soldiers Angels in August 2024 when my 55+ community collected socks for soldiers and veterans. we collected over 1,500 pairs of socks. Then I registered to be a volunteer. First I watered the garden and the VA Poly Trauma Center on Saturdays. I then sent birthday cards and letters to deployed troops, participated in a virtual baby shower for a deployed servicemen's wife, sent a couple of boxes full of goodies to soldiers and made 20 Thanksgiving cards for service members not able to be home for Thanksgiving. This all felt really good so I was committed to help every month in some way. Then I saw a request asking that a card of encouragement be sent to a veteran going through a hard time and needed encouragement. The request was not from the veteran but it was heartfelt. I decided to put together a great big caring box for this veteran and his child along with a letter of encouragement. 3 weeks later I received the most beautiful thank you letter I have ever read. It totally filled my heart and showed me how much simple things can mean to someone who has given everything for this country. It doesn't matter how much each of us does, it just matters that each of us do something. This is a fantastic organization to work with to do that something.
