Hi I would like to start with a few scientific facts about the benefits of having pets. It is proven that people who own pets live longer, have less stress, are more active, and heal faster after surgery. There are many more but the last fact holds a greater importance to our situation. My daughter was diagnosed with severe scoliosis 2yrs ago and after a lot of consideration we decided it was the perfect time to let her foster two kittens. Suddenly her overall mood improved with physical therapy and having to use a back brace 18hrs a day. In a matter of days it was clear we were foster fails. Yubari was Annie's soul cat, their bond is magical and he knows when she needs extra attention with cuddling next to her or a laugh by him being a goof ball. Annie will be getting a major surgery and we know Yubari will have a critical role to play in her recovery.
Then I woke up one morning to find a very sick Yubari. His bladder was completely blocked and I knew this was bad. Every vet I called wanted tons of money just to bring him in. How was I going to tell my daughter we had to put her cat down? She would find out veterinary care could have saved him but the cost was simply too much. I started looking for any other options and I had to do it fast because Yubari was in pain. Then I found For the Love of Alex. I filled out the app and called leaving a heartbroken message. Within a few minutes Carla called, she got the name of the vet, and I raced Yubari over. After days at the veterinarian Yubari is back home. It took a little while for him to recover but Annie was right there with him...it was her turn to help him feel better.
No one should have to euthanize a pet when veterinary care can provide a healthy outcome. Unfortunately this is a sad fact that happens every day. For the Love of Alex is literally saving the life's of beloved pets. I encourage everyone who has the ability to donate to please consider For the Love of Alex.
