I had participated in some runs that the Kailee Mills Foundation hosted in my community. I loved the message and the mission to save lives by spreading seat belt safety awareness. We had lost someone very close to us due to non-seat belt use. His name was Oscar Martinez, and he was 15 years old. Oscar was out on a trip with his dad in a semi-truck. Oscar was in the back drawing and talking to my niece on the phone when his dad swerved to miss a deer. Oscar was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected and killed on impact. My sister, a police officer, was the one that delivered the news. I saw the toll it took on that family and my own.

I recently joined the Kailee Mills Foundation, which has been one of the best decisions of my life. I wake up every morning excited to go to work and make a difference and save lives in my community and across the nation.
