Review for Loving Farm Animal Sanctuary, Paso Robles, CA, USA
I spent a few very short weeks volunteering at LFAS & made friends/family for a lifetime. Loving Farm was the first animal sanctuary that I visited & volunteered with. It took me quite a while to finally get over my nerves & make the trip to visit. As soon as I drove onto the property, Tracey & Bill were outside, huge smiles & waving. I immediately thought to myself, "why did you wait so dang long?" That first day, I was given a tour & explained the basics of what they did & how they did it & then set up a plan to return.
Tracey met me every morning to do chores...make & feed breakfasts, clean stalls, fresh water, scoop pops, wash bowls & YES! love on all my new friends. Everyday I learned something new. And everyday I spent there with these 2 compassionate individuals, I grew stronger in my convictions. Grew more confident & sure of myself & my message. The time I spent with Tracey, Bill & my LFAS friends propelled me forward into continued volunteering & into areas of engagement & speaking that I never thought I'd relish.
Educating is one of Traceys strong suits ( I mean honestly it's all strong with her) & she does it without making it feel pushy or contrived. It's compassion baby...it just flows out of her.
Bill is the other half of this dynamic duo...the wrangler & the muscle. The man that brings home the money (not the bacon!!), divvies it up accordingly & jumps into job #2! They need to clone this man seriously!
Volunteering with this group of spirited vegan individuals with personality for days (the peeps & the animals) was the highlight of my California experience. I can not wait to go back!
Review for Odd Man Inn Animal Refuge, Jamestown, TN, USA
The general mission of Odd Man Inn is to leave NO animal behind...no matter how dire, moody, hard to get, or just plain bitey they may be!
I've personally always been a bit "odd" to most, so imagine my utter delight in discovering they existed. Then in the wacky way the universe works, the sanctuary in California I volunteered at had adopted a pig from OMI. Fast forward about 2 months & I'm at their front gate! Ready to meet the whole gang (that's ALOT of names!!) & get to work. Scooping poops the name of the game & I play hard! Fresh water. Clean beds. Tidy hang out areas. And SNACKs!! These sanctuary babes are WELL taken care of.....and they all deserve every bit of it!
Wendy & Josh treat their Animal Care Crew with trust, respect & thankfulness everyday. And they have an amazing group of selfless individuals with only one thing in common....LOVE. The love they have for the animals is beautiful to see & inspiring. Makes me want to do more. Be more. Be a louder voice for the voiceless. That's why I went that first day & why I keep going back! (well let's be totally honest...the cute & super snuggly piggies keep me coming back tooí ¾í´«)
