Review for Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation Inc, Schererville, IN, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This year has been a tough one for many families that we serve. Our camps for children with autism spectrum disorders have been vital for providing social opportunities to children and young adults who have largely been at home through the pandemic. Some of these families simply didn't have the funds to make that happen. I am so thankful for ASDF providing the funds for these young people to come to a safe environment where they can have social opportunities and meet other friends for a fund time. Thank you for seeing past the surface needs to the critical needs of the families we serve!

Review for Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation Inc, Schererville, IN, USA

Four years ago we had a family in our program come in danger of having to leave the program because their personal finances simply would not allow their son to continue receiving services. The Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation came through for this family by covering the cost of the program for that year. This young man has now been with us since 2013. This child who was barely talking and would not allow his har to be cut and had difficulty following simple directions has come so far in these five years. In December we determined he could be ready to go to sleepover camp for a week this summer with his typical peers. We spent months working on skills like washing his hair, changing his clothes, following a schedule, and communicating well with others. This month, when the time came for him to go to camp, we felt that his therapist needed to go with him this first time, in order to assure a successful experience and to facilitate communication with his peers. The Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation came through again to pay for his therapist to spend five days with him, helping him achieve success at this camp. He came through camp with flying colors and we were excited about the other groups who took note and realized that a child with autism could be successful at camp. It has been my joy to partner with the ASDF to meet the needs of many children across the years. They are an amazing organization that help so many others.
