Review for Soldiers' Angels, San Antonio, TX, USA
My husband and I signed up to be soldiers angels at the end of last year. After a few weeks of not hearing from our local contact, I emailed and asked about getting our solider's name. I was told, basically, that we would get it when they get it and we would know what they know. I trusted those instructions and emailed back that I didn't realize there was a wait involved. Several weeks more passed into a few months, again, with no contact. I finally recieved an email telling us that we were no longer needed as our soldier (name listed) had been sent home. I was appalled and disappointed to realize that perhaps, this young man was told that he had been assigned a SA but never received anything since WE were not told of him. I emailed our contact again stating as such and have heard NOTHING back in response even though the email had been verified as being sent. No explaination, nothing. As a writer for military issues, and a mother to service members myself, I am appalled at the lack of integrity I have just witnessed. While I would hope that this was an isolated incident, I have since come across certain curiosities involved with this organization which do not sit well with me. One of which was found at the American Institute of Philanthropy/ charity watch from 2007. I am heartily disappointed and thoroughly digusted.

Personally? I went by what they told me they do over the phone and at their site.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Make sure that they're slogan holds true, "No soldier goes unloved." Well, since we never got our soldier's name, we can only hope he didn't!
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Learning not to use or endorse them again and to check out charities even if they seem legitimate before signing up.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
never met them. Got one call from one in town here for an interview. She was legitimate which is why we signed up. The only other was through email and we were brushed off.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
It should train better.
Ways to make it better...
They had done what they said they would do and if I hadn't read their review at another charity watch site. While mistakes happen, this one was brought to attention and STILL ignored.Shameful.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Making certain their staff is better trained and no soldier is left out. Since we were not told of ours, at least one may have been!
One thing I'd also say is that...
Enough said.

Review for The Veterans Support Organization, Stuart, FL, USA
Not buyin it. Sorry. Try harder. A US senator says you're shady. Your BBB ratings don't add up (or even SHOW up!) even though you have it copied and pasted on your site...you're shady and we're writing about it.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Stop putting people in uniforms they shouldn't be wearing, show my 990's ON the site and get the people I am "helping" into a school so they can have a real job besides carrying a bucket. And call the BB to get an actual rating.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Finding out how they work.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
I don't know. No one picked up the phone or called me back!
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
I don't even want to know
Ways to make it better...
The guy who took my Mother's money was actually a REAL veteran!
