Review for Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy, Daytona Beach, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

i heard about wounded warrior umpire academy through a another veteran mentor friend of mine Matthew Currin.. I always like baseball I never umpire before. i did the research on website and saw positive feedback. I said I should give it a try and apply to the academy. It was an amazing experience to meet the professional staff at academy and also meet professional umpires to volunteer there time for the warriors for the 10 days. In addition meeting other Alumni members who went through the program and give back to organization. I actually like the experience training ang giving commands on the field and doing umpire has improve my confident that I can challenge myself trying things I never did before. There were times I felt like quitting but the staff gave me the encouragement to keep pursing and assisting me with my drills. The WWUA is a great organization and I am proud to be a member of the family.

Review for Long Island Sled Hockey Inc. - For the Differently-abled Athlete, , NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

It is a pleasure and honor to write a review recommendation for Rough Riders Long Island Sled Hockey. I have been with this amazing organizing since 2014. I am a Army combat veteran and complete two tours in Iraq and reintegrating back into civilian sector was challenging for me. I was blessed to come into contact with Alumni from the Rough Riders who introduce me to the sport. I got a open invitation to come to the Bethpage ice rink i was given a tour and actually went on the ice and went on the sled to skate on the ice. After visiting the team and seeing other players on the ice. I love the sports It was a work out for me to build my upper body strength. I have complete away and home tournaments and attend weekly practice sessions. With the Covid there has been modifications with the game I play with the team on practicing drills

I am a combat veteran and did two tours in Iraq. I served 3 years and 3 months on active duty stationed in Savannah, Georgia and prior to that I served 7 years in the Army Reserves. After my honorable discharge I moved back to New York. I was fortunate to meet someone from the team who educated me about Sled Hockey. I have been playing sled hockey in October of 2014. I find sled hockey to be a great sport for all. The team is amazing which consist of able-bodied players and players with other types of disabilities (differently able athletes) the sled hockey is an adaptive sports that helps me with my PTSD. The coaches, volunteered and families of the players are caring people and I consider them part of my family. Hockey is for Everyone Hoorah . i rate the Long Island Rough Riders a five star foir service and dedication.

I am a combat wounded veteran who served completed two tours in Iraq. I have been a member of the Long Island Sled Hockey team for the past 5 years or so. This is an excellent organization of professional staff who volunteer their time for the rough riders sled hockey team. The players are friendly and caring team members they are mix with abled body as well as players with various types of physical disabilities , intellectual disabilities and some veterans as well. I met some warriors as well on the various teams. I went to a tournament to Chicago back in February 2019 it was a nice experience. This year March 2019 i have appeared on a website called the color of Hockey for Fans and Players of Color. I applied and have been selected as a participant 2019 Sled Hockey Military Sports Camp Skills Academy by the Wounded Heroes Foundation. Hockey is a game for everyone to play and enjoy. Lets Go Rough Riders for winning a few Tournaments this year.

Review for NYC Veterans Alliance Foundation, Inc. , New York, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been participating with multiple events with this organization and have only positive things to say. These events have given me the chance to meet so many wonderful people and other organizations who are dedicated in serving veterans. This organization has made me feel so appreciated and cared for. The staff have been courteous and compassionate. One of my favorite events was Speak Up and Rise which allows people to share their stories in a safe and supportive environment.

I am a combat veteran and have been with the rough riders for approximately 4 years . I love the organization and it is a excellent organization to be part of. . After my reintegration back into civilian sector I had to transition myself. I was fortunate to have gone to one event a professional from adaptive sports from Windham NY told me about sit down water skiing in Connecticut called Leaps of Faith and i was introduce to sled hockey by one of the team mates from rough riders she told me about it an invited me to one of the practices. After the practice I like it and right ten I new I had to be a member of the team. The other rewarding aspect from the Long island sled hockey team are to the various types of disabilities and the team does not let any of their challenges stop them from playing and to be better player. Being part of this team has given me more confidence to challenge myself not only in playing hockey but in other adaptive sports .

Learning to sled, having to get fitted, and propelling with the sticks plus all the gear, the helmet, the gloves - it was a lot of upper body workout. But I like to challenge myself,Sled hockey helps me physically and emotionally, and also helps me focus. Seeing my teammates’ disabilities motivates me to overcome my own.”
