Review for Special Horses, St. Louis, MO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I support Special Horses and their advocacy. Their creative marketing means I always click on their stories to read them, and often learn something too! Their outreach to enhance other rescues shows the team spirit Special Horses always shows, including a strong educational portion of excellent strategies for grant writing.

Review for Fleet Of Angels, Denver, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Fleet of Angels and its President, the indomitable Elaine Nash, are exactly who we all need in times of trouble. With a laser-like focus on what is needed, often in emergency situations, Elaine is able to turn on a dime and get help to hungry horses and desperate people. She researches the need to ensure donations are spent on those who really need it. I'm delighted to donate to this professionally run, ethical non-profit organization.

Thank you for your nice review! We would love to be able to do even more, and hopefully will be able to expand with several new, much-needed programs to help at-risk horses in even more ways in coming years.

I really love this non-profit! Not only firmly committed to responsible horse welfare, but the new Adopted Horse Incentive Program really rocks. Great photos every month of only verified adopted horses, entered by the people who adopted and love them! Kudos to HorseSense for thinking of this - and enacting it in 2020!

Review for Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue, King City, CA, USA

Thank you so much for having your trained volunteers helping evacuate horses in these terrible fires. Overwhelmed with so many fires during this high wind period, we all need to work together to keep safe, and it's very helpful that your people know the procedures and can assist other, less experienced people, to get through it. Thank you!

A former firefighter as a board member is a great choice! So much information and strategy is shared on how get horses safely evacuated. Right now there are multiple fires burning in horse-keeping areas of California. I'm glad we know what to do and what to take with us, and what to expect from evacuation centers. Fires are terrifying.

Review for ANIMAL GUARDIAN NETWORK INC, Camp Verde, AZ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Animal Guardian Network does amazing work, especially with special needs and elderly animals. Their one-on-one care for each animal is really touching - to see the 3 legged, the blind and the displaced find a new joy in their lives because instead of being seen as a burden, AGN cherishes each one of them uniquely.

HorseSense has a board member who used to be a firefighter, so the education and guidance on wildfire evacuations is really helpful. For example, I didn't know that once Mandatory Evacuation is declared, people can't come IN to help you - you can only LEAVE. So get your horses out before or at least during a VOLUNTARY Evacuation so friends can still come in with a trailer to help you. And fires are unpredictable, winds can change. Don't wait..
Glad to donate to this organization - I will continue to do so.

Marlene Dodge uses her experience as a former 24 year firefighter to evacuate horses from dangerous situations, and teach others how to prepare and implement a sound plan for emergencies. She does a great job of assessing the suitability of horses and people like an old-fashioned matchmaker! And her networking and assisting of other rescues is excellent.

Review for Polo Pony Rescue, Littlerock, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I take seriously the advice to check out organizations before donating to them. I visit Polo Pony Rescue before every donation to ensure my hard-earned money will be put to the use intended. In every visit I have observed every horse is cared for on an individual basis according to their needs and preferences. Plus excellent judgement on the level of veterinary care. I highly recommend this rescue with its very unusual niche specialty - polo ponies transform into good riding horses with the right training, and have many good qualities normally overlooked.

If I could award 6 stars, I would...
Polo ponies spend their playing years working hard and being a good part of a team. Once those days are over, they are useful in less-stressful private homes. Their readjustment care at the hands of experienced, compassionate Cathy Trope is a model for other rescues. It really is ALL about the horses. You can donate here - and adopt - knowing the ethics are as good as the knowledge.
