The new Adopted Horse Incentive Program that Horse Sense has created is such a good idea, and has been long awaited by those in the cause of promoting equine adoption ! People who adopt horses typically find themselves on the outside of the circle when it comes to participating in horse shows and various horse sports because their horse- even if of quality breeding, doesn't have the registration documents attached to it that are required for breed show competitions. By creating a program that is designed specifically for adopted horses, that circle opens up, creating an exciting opportunity for adopters of equines. Not only will adopters be able to compete and accumulate points toward awards for their participation and successes, the network of horse adopters that's also created will provide a whole new social arena for adopters to enjoy. Horse Sense director Liz Radley is a lovely and caring person who wants adopters to enjoy the entire spectrum of horse 'ownership', and is forging a pathway for that to finally be possible! This is a win-win plan run by a winner. For adopters of equines, it just doesn't get any better than that!
HorseSense is a top notch organization committed to the adoption of equines who need new homes. Well run by individuals with considerable expertise.
Truly committed to the lifetime welfare of the animals rescued, HorseSense provides real sanctuary and full lives to horses and ponies who would otherwise really struggle to find a place in life. Not only do their sanctuary horses enjoy this care and commitment; they continue to support horses who have been placed or moved to other rescues, as well as helping local horses in the community by many means, including education and community involvement .
Wonderful organization. Has helped me and my rescue many times.
Lifetime of equine experience. Professional with horse and human relationships foremost in their endeavor.
Horse Sense's Adopted Horse Incentive Program is a win win - not only does it promote adoption, it also highlights the rescue organizations. I have been incredibly impressed with their mission, their professionalism, and their programs. Their efforts shine a light on the value of adopted equines and the tireless work of equine rescues.

This is an organization taking a different path to help promote equine welfare - and what a great organization it is! They celebrate the adopted equine - mini, pony, horse, mule...what better way to promote adoption and equine rescue? Their ongoing photo and video contests offer bragging rights (and an exquisite rosette) - but more importantly, they promote so many rescues' efforts. While their high points awards have been a bit derailed by the pandemic, I am certain it will flourish like their other efforts. An excellent and worthy organization!
HorseSense doesn't just take exceptional care of its horses. It has also developed an Adopted Horse photo contest to bring awareness to how awesome rescue horses are! This is the kind of outreach to the general horse community that helps raise interest in adopting, not shopping. Highly recommend!
The best rescues combine both kind hearts and knowledgeable, experienced people and HorseSense is one of those rescues. They provide permanent, forever safe sanctuary to troubled horses that have been failed by their previous people. At HorseSense, these horses learn that there are people who can be trusted to bring food every day, to clean their areas, to make sure their hooves are trimmed and that they see the vet. They don't have to be anything other than loved. A wonderful place for an abused horse or pony to land!
Love the recognition HorseSense gives to adopted horses and the advise they give people. The care of the horse and safety of the human are a priority and it's so refreshing to find another top notch equine charity! I always look forward to the information and stories they share.
I love the photo contest, bringing awareness to rescue horses who have found loving homes.

This is not the loudest charity on the block, but the work they have done speaks volumes. They have discreetly taken in horses in need of help, horses who would not have been released to a rescue that was going to post all about it on social media and shame the owners. Those horses are safe and well fed today, years later. They have frequently stepped in to help by paying for vet care or feed or a euthanasia when needed to prevent suffering when the horse owner was too financially distressed to provide those things. This is exactly the type of responsible, adult, professional nonprofit management that I'm proud to support with my donations.
This is a fantastic, well run charity helping adopted horses get the recognition they deserve!

I have personal knowledge of HorseSense helping horses in dire need. When an elderly man was dying of cancer, his family sent his 2 mustangs to auction. How sad is that! There was no-one at the auction who wanted them, and they would have been sold for slaughter in Mexico. HorseSense bought them to keep them safe. Once a new home was found, they handled the required Coggins & blood tests before they were transported there. HorseSense followed up to ensure both the horses and the adopter are happy! And they sent photographs to the elderly gentlemen so he could see this beloved mustangs were safe in their new home before he passed away. That's what I call a great rescue!
This year (2020) has been a really tough year financially, so I haven't been able to donate as much as I would like. I'm really glad that what I was able to give was 100% used to feed horses impacted by CA fire evacuations. It's great when you know it's going where it's really needed, and not to overhead or salaries like some of the big non-profits.

Really helps beginner horse owners and riders with workshops and seminars. We learned a lot about natural horse behavior that explained miscommunication between us and our horses, and we were to fix it.
I really love this non-profit! Not only firmly committed to responsible horse welfare, but the new Adopted Horse Incentive Program really rocks. Great photos every month of only verified adopted horses, entered by the people who adopted and love them! Kudos to HorseSense for thinking of this - and enacting it in 2020!

A former firefighter as a board member is a great choice! So much information and strategy is shared on how get horses safely evacuated. Right now there are multiple fires burning in horse-keeping areas of California. I'm glad we know what to do and what to take with us, and what to expect from evacuation centers. Fires are terrifying.
This year, HorseSense launched the Adopted Horse Incentive Program, a competition for JUST adopted horses. It started with a photo contest where a lucky winner can win $100 with a great picture of their adopted horse. This will be expanding to a horse show competition when things return to normal and all the shows and events are happening again. HorseSense doesn't just rescue horses - although it does do that - it is also focused on making adoption the most appealing option, which benefits ALL equine rescues. I am proud to be involved with this terrific, reputable and forward-thinking organization!

HorseSense continues to provide exceptional care to the equines it oversees, most of whom have emotional issues that make it highly unlikely they would find a safe haven elsewhere. One of their horses was a stallion who sat unhandled in a stall for over a decade. Another was a terrified pony who was abandoned with his board unpaid. These are the horses in greatest need in our world, and now they are safe forever thanks to HorseSense. Definitely one of the most reputable animal rescue organizations I've had the pleasure of being involved with!
The Adopted Horse Incentive Program is a great initiative to encourage horse adoption and create community among owners of rescue horses.
I’ve been enjoying giving to HorseSense Inc. every year. As a horse enthusiast, it’s always good to know my dollars are going to the core of what really helps.

I’m a firm believer in rescuing animals. My main focus is to donate towards horse rescues. Horse Sense is such a wonderful charity to work with. I believe that all the funds go to insure these rescue horses are to be revived to a much more stable and easy way of life.
I find a sheer decency in the mindset of how they go about attempting to bring these horses back to a reality they can be secure in. This charity represents animal lovers thru and thru from an animals devistated existence to utter peace.
An organized and informed organization that really knows how to help horses and checks up on their long-term commitments to them.. keep up the great work!

I met the HorseSense folk over a year ago, when they helped me with my horse. Honestly, if they hadn't figured out what the problem was (it was the saddle), I would have sold my horse because he kept bucking when he started to canter, and I fell off twice and got scared. I didn't realize it was pinching him so much, but he's a different horse to ride now that's all solved. Since then I've stayed in touch and donated what I can afford, because I see they are helping horses who really need it. Once they explained how risky it was to sell a horse that was bucking - how they could be auctioned to bad or cruel home, or even sent for slaughter, I realized it was worth trying harder to solve the problem, and we did it!!! I learned a lot.

I'm a new horse owner and I was having trouble with my horse. I contacted HorseSense because they are local to me, and they have an educational program. Long story short, they helped me UNDERSTAND a lot more about my horse so I could figure out what was going wrong and how to get a better relationship with him.
The education and regional services provided by HorseSense are top notch. I donate with confidence knowing that my money is used to really help horses.
I can't say enough good things - superhelpful finding a good home for horse that was horribly neglected and was literally walking on 3 legs. HorseSense arranged and paid for immediate veterinary help to save the horse and it all worked out - I've never seen a horse so happy to be rescued!

HorseSense rescued a gorgeous dark bay TB who was a former racehorse. They had him trained by a professional trainer so he would know he wasn't a racehorse anymore, and I adopted him. They were so helpful in making sure that we were a match and have stayed in touch with me to make sure we still love each other!
Extremely knowledgeable and competent as well as compassionate and caring. You don't always find that combination in horse rescue. HorseSense is the real thing and doing great work for equines. Highly recommended.
Always ethical, always for the good of the horse.. THAT is 'HorseSense'! Kudos to a good horsewoman running a legit rescue!

And amazing horse rescue group ... if you are to say no that they’ve rehomed are very happy and content and their new place ...
I deal with very few organization's but this one's a good one. They not only engage in eqine rescue and work towards finding great homes for horses, but they also educate new owners of horses so they can give the rescued horses the best chance to live out their lives in safety and happiness. Highly recommend
This organization does wonderful things for horses and ponies. The ability to relocate and care for theses lovely animals is extraordinary. These horses are handled with such love and tenderness. They create an environment for these rescues to come alive again and regain their sense of self and confidence. They truly restore these abused and timid creatures back in to Happiness.
Welldone.

Extremely well run equine rescue that provides top notch veterinary care and professional training to the horses it takes in! Instead of trying to quickly move horses out the door, they remain with HorseSense until they are truly ready for a new home, both mentally and physically. In addition, this organization devotes itself to educating horse owners on proper care and humane training methods so that fewer horses end up needing rescue.
