Review for Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions, San Francisco, CA, USA
Palomacy is an exceptional organization. They not only help hundreds of animals every year, they also educate thousands of humans about the plight of domestic pigeons and doves. Just over two years ago I connected with Palomacy to help by fostering, and I was taken in graciously, having never had any experience with domestic birds, and was taught everything I needed to know to properly care for them. I was even provided with supplies to help get me started. It didn't take long for me to fall head over heels in love with these animals and the work that Palomacy does. Now I couldn't imagine my life without these beautiful creatures and the wonderful network of animal lovers that Palomacy has created.
Review for Animal Place, Grass Valley, CA, USA
I discovered Animal Place when I first became vegan nearly 4 years ago. I was so delighted they were located so close to me (and originally were located in my hometown of Vacaville)! My first in person experience was on one of their facility tours. Marji gave an excellent opening talk about the facility, what they do and why they do it, and even inserted a personal experience of her own about why she decided to stop consuming animals and animal products. The facility is beautiful, very well maintained, very large with tons of happy, loving/loved creatures roaming around. My second experience was as a volunteer at one of their recent events (Music in the Meadow). My boyfriend and I were assigned to monitor two of their newest calves. They were so well organized, friendly and appreciative of all the volunteers. The staff were very helpful and answered any questions we had and were there if we needed anything at all. But the best part was spending time with the calves and getting to know their personalities (and falling in love with them). The second best (a tie for first really) was the experience of talking with the public, telling them the story of the calves and showing them the results of the the dairy industry (as these were male calves discarded from the dairy industry and left to starve to death). Being able to educate people about something that is somewhat hidden in our society was an incredible experience, that I wouldn't hesitate to do again and again. I am grateful to Animal Place for allowing me to have this experience and for everything they do for the animals who can't speak up and fight for themselves.
