Review for Soldiers' Angels, San Antonio, TX, USA
My name is Melissa Garvin. I started with soldiers angels a little over five years ago. Before I became a volunteer, I was a recipient of all the love, support, and courage everyone in this organization has. My husband LCPL Edward M Garvin was k.I.a. the support they gave me during such a hard time was something I will never forget. They showed me with hundreds of cards, and letters of support. The shared there hearts, and kind words during the hardest time in my life. I still look back on the hard days at the cards they sent. They not only sent letters during the time but also sent me a braclet for my first christmas without him. On the braclet was bead with words of encouragement. A year after his death I also joined as a volunteer. The awareness they give to other about deployed, injured, left behind family members, and so much more. They make sure to not only care for the deployed soldier but to care for any soldier, or family member who needs it. There is not enough words to describe how thankful I am for everything they have done for me and my family. I am proud to be apart of something so much bigger then just a non profit organization. They literally help change peoples lives. There simply "angels", every single one of them.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
When my husband was K.I.A and they send hundreads of support letters to me. When the wake and the funeral is over and you feel like you have no one that understands what your going threw and you feel so alone, they where there with kind words cards and letters to help.me threw the hardest time of my life. I am not only greatful, but blessed that they were there for me.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I wouldn't change anything. They stand by the wounded, the deployed, the families, the ones killed in action, and the soldiers who feel like they have no one.

My experience with them was amazing. I was blesssed to have meet so many soldiers, threw letters and care packages.
Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)
Yes, it taught me how much the simple things mean to soldiers. It taught me that everyone including myself could make a diffrence. I can pack a box in seconds flat now. It taught me that even though my husband gave his life there are still thousands more fighting for the same thing he believed so much in. It taught me that people you least exspect are there for you, and that millions of people around the word are kind hearted.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
Happy, helpful, greatful, and determined to spread the word about there amazing work.
