Even though I'm on unemployment currently, Grist is such an important source of critical information to me that I'm happy to make regular, if small, contributions to keep it going. Grist's website has the distinction of being my homepage and earns its place every day. Humanity is facing its most critical challenges ever this century. If we fail to avoid the pitfalls of our technological adolescence, if we fail to get off our current lethal emissions paths, if we fail to transition to an economy supported by safe, clean, renewable energy, civilization as we know it will perish this century. Grist is devoted to seeing that this unthinkable tragedy doesn't happen. They rise to the occasion superbly, often in inspiring ways.

Grist provides me with valuable updates on the environment from a diverse array of sources. It saves me so much time, and half of the things they report on, I would probably never know about otherwise. Their stories are relevant and interesting, well-written and important. They provide fuel for my interest in helping the environment.

Grist keeps me informed about environmental issues. It cuts through uninformed opinion and tells it like it is, often with humor. However, it is serious journalism. All this is in addition to being topical and up to date.

I love Ask Umbra! Her answers, besides being practical, often provide links to reputable studies or products. I have bought products or types of products that have been mentioned on Ask Umbra.

I feel that reading The Daily Grist makes me more thoughtful in my daily life and causes me to consider the choices I am making every day. I wish more people would read it, expecially those to whom we have given our consent to write laws for us.

Grist is the best source for environmental news. I have been reading it daily for years. The coverage of Washington news and proposed legislation that impacts me directly is very valueable. As an educator I share the information from Grist regularly. I find the coverage of the days events to be witty and well thought out. I feel I'm part of something bigger and I can make a difference by participating in governemnt through letters to my representatives filled with information gleaned from Grist.

Grist has the most penetrating journalism in the environmental sector. Its clear, intelligent reporting pulls no punches, and it serves as a clearing house to many non-career environmentalists, who seek to stay current with trends, issues, and policies. As an avid reader, I've consistently given to support this organization, and proud of its remarkable growth over the past several years.

I manage the social media for AgeNation, an online magazine that advocates for a more conscious lifestyle in order to address some of the major problems of our time, whether it be socially, politically, environmentally, or as consumers. Apart from our own content, I source stories from the internet that are conscious-living related for use on our social media channels and as source material for our commentaries. Grist has become one the main sources I return to again and again, both for its relevancy and for its quality & depth of its reporting and advocacy for a more socially just and equitable country. Long may they continue, and we need more like them.

I have been informed, enlightened, and entertained reading Grist's emails and online stories about environmental issues since at least Jan 3, '05. I know this because I have retained nearly every email, which I think says rather a lot during a time when we are truly bombarded with electronic media of all types. They combine a keen awareness of what's important and interesting in the world of environmental news with a sharp sense of humor and irony. Grist is truly inspirational on a daily basis. They are the green movement's version of The Daily Show, and it has been a pleasure watching their readership and influence grow for the past seven years.

I co-chair a committee at my church where we study "ethical eating", and forward many Grist articles to our large email list. I also chair a Transition Town committee, and forward articles related to climate change, peak oil, etc. to them. Some wonderful opinion pieces, which often lead to plenty of interesting opinions from the readership.

Grist is one of only two newsletters I deign to receive in my email box. Period. I enjoy their newsletters and at least glance over them every day as I have found they keep me up to date on various world topics which I find interesting and important, not the least of which are environment and politics.

Even more, I appreciate their format - that I can get bite-sized info in the newsletter and follow the link for a more in-depth review - and their attitude. Slightly smarmy, a bit tongue-in-cheek, but always intelligent and well-informed.

Bravo to Grist for keeping me educated *and* entertained for the past four years!

I work for a Canadian environmental non-profit charity, and I've been reading Grist's daily updates for a number of years. They provide insight both into the US environmental state of things, as well as general information without evidence of corporate interference.

They provide tremendous insights eg. into global climate policy (David Roberts), general FAQs (Umbra Fisk), and food policy to name just a few. Plus they provide links to important news and video sources, often with commentary.

The only bit of constructive feedback I'd offer is that because environmental issues are so tragic that sarcasm seems to be the only response, occasionally I'm concerned that the uninitiated and/or people for whom sarcasm is culturally less familiar, may miss the sarcasm and read it literally.

I confess, I don't read every article word for word, and sometimes I even have to re-read something to make sure i get the correct gist of the argument.

In sum, humour is useful; sarcasm can create confusion, and Grist's forte is effective communications on enviro issues.

I would encourage anyone to support Grist's continued excellence in this field.

Grist does an amazing job bringing the vast topics that environmentalism covers, pulling apart the layers and letting us look inside. It brings humor and wit to subjects that can be depressing and frustrating and calls out those in power that refuse to make the environment, the world that we live in, a priority.

One example is their continuing support of growing a healthy food system and exposing the flaws in the industrial food system we currently have. When the tainted egg incident happened, Grist was right there with the details of how the particular farmer that owned the mega-egg production farms had receive many saftey violations over the years, but didn't change his practices.

I really don't have any negative feedback for Grist. This is one newsletter I look forward to getting everyday!

Every single day, I wake up to Grist for my news.

You can tell that it's written by other members of humankind, rather than someone boasting off their opinions in your face or robotic blog posters. They are fueled by the same incredulous emotions that we all come to know as a combined guilt for the sanity and sanctity of this world that we've been given. This Eden that others continue to destroy.

I rely on Grist to sort through the confusion and offer those like me, the one thing I need most in these trying times...

Hope.

I have been a reader of Grist for several years, and I recently wrote a quick note to one of the writers, whose work I find to be consistently excellent (included below). In general, I think it's a great publication. It really helps me keep in touch with what's going on environmentally without investing inordinant amounts of time that I don't have to do so. Dear David Roberts, I've read numerous articles of yours over time, and have always been impressed with your proficiency as a writer and researcher, and with your sane, balanced voice. I thought I'd just take a moment to write and tell you how much I appreciate what you offer on a daily basis; I feel that one of the main problems with our current culture is the dwindling of actual news delivered by reporters who understand the power and purpose of their actions, and you are one of those holding the line against the loss of our collective exchange of real, independent information and analysis. It just warms my heart to read work such as yours! I hope you continue to share your excellent talents for a long time to come. Thank you.

Climate change is one of THE most important issues of our time, trumping health care as there will be no need for health care if there is no planet. The mainstream media does an awful job at covering the topic, relegating it to the science pages, the business pages or relying on wire copy. That’s why we need Grist. Grist does an excellent job of making the complicated uncomplicated, doing that with humor and style, all while preserving journalistic integrity and providing information not found elsewhere.
