Mission: The ywca is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Ywca tulsa accomplishes this mission locally by advocating for all tulsans to succeed through wellness, wealth and education.
Programs: Health & wellness programs / senior programs: the ywca helped improve the lives of 3,839 people in 2014. Women, men, children and seniors participated in a variety of activities including group classes, strength training, warm water aquatics, and swimming lessons. In addition, special programs were offered to at-risk groups: los pecesitos provided spanish-language swim training to 191 children in response to the increased risk of drowning amoung hispanic children, and hundreds of seniors improved their physical and social well-being through group fitness classes targeting arthritis. A physical-development program, girls on the run reached over 160 girls at six schools throughout tulsa county.
immigrant & refugee services: the ywca tulsa served 14,711 people from around the world in 2014. Hundreds of newcomers attended english classes offered throughout the city, and the ywca tulsa expanded its workforce partnership for immigrants. The ywca tulsa continued its partnership with the u. S. Citizenship and immigration services division of the department of homeland security with project citizenship, which has now helped over 500 people from over 50 countries become u. S. Citizens. The ywca also provided many other services including refugee assistance, document filing, translation and interpretation services, legal counsel, and information referrals.
women's empowerment: on your own programming helps divorcing women successfully transition to an independent life through training in finances, legal concerns, children, and self-care. 270 women benefited from the program in 2014.
racial justice initiatives: the ywca reached over 2,000 people through discussion groups, racial affinity groups, workshops, and community events to initiate constructive dialogue around issues of race in 2014.
