Mission: Ywca is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
Programs: Health and safetyimmigrant survivors of partner violence (ispv), formerly aiw. Through a partnership with 30 agencies, the alliance for immigrant women reaches across cultural and language barriers to assist immigrant women experiencing domestic abuse, providing supportive services, securing documents, legal services, job training, and training community partners. Materials are available in seven languages. In 2016, ispv provided 50 training/outreach events for 5,482 individuals and 47 individual case consultations. Transform adult (formerly amend) is a program for adult males who engage in domestic violence which helps them take responsibility for their actions; examine and confront the values, beliefs and attitudes that contribute to violence; and develop non-violent alternatives for dealing with conflict and managing anger. 642 adults participants were served in 2016. Amend adolescent is a prevention/intervention program for youth involved in or at risk for violent behaviors. In 2016, 239 adolescents and 337 parents were served. Breast and cervical health network offers women and teens who are underserved in the greater cincinnati area mobile mammography screenings; educational presentations on breast, cervical, and testicular cancer; and referral services. In 2016, 44 sites and 418 females received mammogram screenings. The great beginnings program educated 413 teens in schools in 2016. Child welfare domestic violence connection program (cwdvc) the ywca partners with hamilton county job & family services (jfs)-children's protective services to provide support and services to families and children exposed to domestic violence. In 2016, the program served 1,399 parents and children. Co-ed fitness center is a downtown facility managed by trihealth that offers comprehensive, medically based fitness services, including personal training and group fitness classes. In 2016, 461 members were served. Control anger now (can) offers psycho-educational group sessions designed to help adults learn more effective ways to manage their anger in order to lead violence-free lives. 72 individuals were served in 2016. Court advocacy helps survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking in brown and clermont counties and nonresidential case management services are offered in adams and brown counties. 118 clients were assisted in 2016. Domestic violence impacts the workplace project offers technical assistance and crisis intervention to area corporations, agencies, and professionals about domestic violence's effects on the workplace, as well as consultations on policies and procedures in human resources, security, and legal liability. Family violence prevention project is a collaborative of over 45 partners dedicated to preventing all forms of family violence: child abuse, children exposed to domestic violence, bullying, teen dating violence, abuse of people with disabilities, and intimate partner violence. In 2016, 129 individuals were trained through the fvpp children exposed to domestic violence (cedv) training, 501 individuals were served through project care and 751 youth were served through prevention services in hamilton county schools. Project care is a groundbreaking, national model that provides life-saving solutions for women and men with physical, cognitive and mental disabilities who are threatened by caregiver, partner and sexual abuse. Prevention & intervention services include court advocacy, case management, and support group services for adults impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking as well as school-based prevention programs for middle and high school students in clermont, brown and adams counties (2,047 students served in 2016). Hamilton county domestic violence shelter provides safe protective shelter, crisis line assistance and necessary supportive services for adults and their children to move them toward self-sufficiency, independence and freedom from abuse. In 2016, 563 adults and children were served and the 24-hour crisis hotline logged approximately 10,592 calls. House of peace domestic violence shelter provides domestic violence emergency shelter for individuals and their children in clermont, brown and adams counties. In 2016, 141 adults and children were sheltered and the 24-hour crisis hotline logged approximately 4,623 calls. Project care (community, accessibility, response, education) is a groundbreaking, national model that provides life-saving solutions for women and men with physical, cognitive and mental disabilities who are threatened by caregiver, partner and sexual abuse. The program assisted 501 women and men in 2016transitional living program provides services to adults and their children who have moved beyond the emergency phase of domestic violence and are making the transition to independent living. Short and long-term housing, case management, job readiness training, and advocacy are provided. 182 adults and children were served in 2016.
economic empowermentcareer women of achievement luncheon honors eight remarkable women whose collective career achievements, visions and leadership have contributed greatly to our region's economic prosperity. This event is the midwest region's largest, with 2,186 individuals attending the 2016 event. 160 local companies and organizations participated through sponsorships. The charlotte r. Schmidlapp fund scholarship, fifth third bank, trustee provides financial support to women participating in ywca programs who will be attending a secondary educational program. Childcare center, managed by cincinnati early learning center (celc), offers a licensed five-star rated and national association for the education of young children (naeyc)-accredited childcare program. Celc cared for 53 infants, toddlers and preschoolers in 2016. Every child succeeds (ecs), a collaborative program that includes 11 provider agencies, uses an evidenced-based home visitation strategy to promote positive parent-child interaction, healthy child development, and family self-sufficiency. Ecs enrolled 156 hamilton and clermont county families in 2016. Home instruction for parents of preschool youngsters (hippy) is an evidenced-based kindergarten readiness and parent involvement program that supports parents in their role as their child's first teacher. In 2016, the program served 478 children and parents in hamilton, clermont and brown counties. Mamie earl sells scholarship fund provides financial assistance to outstanding african-american female high school seniors entering a post-secondary institution. Each year 10 finalists are honored. Rising star program supports women age 25 to 40 in pursuit of excellence in their careers. In 2016, 715 ywca rising stars were invited to participate in select educational, networking and social events with the academy. The ywca rising star leadership program, a five month program designed to enhance leadership qualities, trains rising stars for non-profit board service, creates support networks, and offers program participants tools to become gender and racial equity leaders. In 2016, 41 rising stars took part in the rising star leadership program. Rosie's girls is a unique summer program for 11-13 year old girls designed to introduce girls to science, technology, engineering, and math (stem) related careers and build self-esteem, physical confidence, interpersonal cooperation, and leadership skills. 24 girls attend the camp annually. Workforce development provides adult education and work readiness training services to low-income individuals. Our personalized comprehensive and cohesive continuum of adult basic education services includes: literacy and basic skills instruction, ged preparation, act workkeys preparation and testing, accuplacer preparation, and computer literacy training. Our work readiness training provides comprehensive pre-employment services and skills, including as well as both general and industry specific work readiness credential obtainment. In 2016, 330 adults advanced their education and job readiness through workforce development.
recognition and inclusionracial justice breakfast & awards is an annual event which brings meaningful dialogue about racism's personal and community-wide effects with keynote speakers who have had a national impact on landmark civil rights cases. In 2016, a sell-out crowd of 405 attended the event and 150 participated through livestream. Racial justice educational series explores various issues through lectures, film, and panel discussions. Stand against racism campaign is a signature campaign of ywca usa to build community among those who work for racial justice while also raising awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities. Approximately 200 people attended in 2016. Toward equity is a program offered to companies, educational institutions and organizations that challenges conventional thinking about diversity and inclusion. It also provides tools to help participants analyze company policies, processes and procedures to promote racial equity. 27 individuals participated in 2016. Ywca's advocacy events seek to promote ywca's mission to eliminate racism through engagement in outreach to change the attitudes that contribute to racial discrimination in greater cincinnati. In 2016, ywca's advocacy events reached approximately 3,345 individuals in the community and included the following: generational violence symposium, advocacy training, "race to execution" film screening, "on race in america" public lecture with ta-nehisi coates, and a community conversation on parenting youth & confronting bullying.
