Mission: To deliver life-changing services to homeless, runaway, and in-crisis youth in northern new mexico by providing shelter and addressing health, safety, education, and workforce opportunities so they may lead independent and meaningful lives.
Programs: The youth emergency shelter is a 24-hour safe haven for youth in crisis, ages 10-17, where they can sleep in a stable environment, eat three nutritious meals a day, obtain clothing, receive counseling and support, and access a full range of services. The shelter served 118 youth, provided 2,683 nights of shelter, and provided 3,416 case management and life skills education hours.
the access training and education community collaborative provides workforce, mentoring, and education opportunities for youth, ages 14-24, most of whom have had juvenile justice involvement. 178 youth received wrap-around case management services, 178 youth received life skills education, 113 youth enrolled in school or ged classes, 113 youth participated in job skills development, worksite internships, and job placement services.
the transitional living program is a supervised apartment setting for homeless youth, ages 17-24, including pregnant and parenting teens. Youth participate in education, workforce and life skills opportunities so they can move out on their own and become independent, fully contributing members of society. The program served 47 youth, provided 6,205 nights of housing, and provided 1,815 case management and life skills education hours. Of the youth served, 14 enrolled in school or ged classes, and 17 secured employment.
the community counseling center provides professional counseling for youth in every program, their families and community members. Many are homeless, at high risk for becoming homeless, or are otherwise in crisis. 139 clients were served, 1,093 counseling hours were provided. The street outreach program provides street-based critical services such as food, water and blankets to youth up to 21 with nowhere to go. Many camp in the mountains, live in cars or sleep in abandoned buildings. Street outreach also has a home-like drop-in center where youth can go to get warm, take a shower, and receive the supportive services they need to leave the streets. 919 youth were served, 5,805 case management hours provided, 16,846 health-related and survival items provided, including hygiene kits, first aid kits. Sleeping bags, clothing, and baby supplies. The pregnant and parenting youth initiative provides safety, stability and wellness for young families, including pregnant and parenting teens, through housing and other assistance. Workshops and classes are offered on topics such as nutrition, health, child development, domestic violence and pregnancy prevention. 189 youth and children served, 627 interventions including: clothing, baby formula, diapers, medical referrals for baby care, parent education classes and reproductive health instructions.
