Programs: The ywca offers the only therapeutic preschool for 3-5 year olds in sonoma county. The teachers are credentialed by the state of california department of education in early childhood education with an emphasis on social-emotional and self-regulation. As a therapeutic preschool, we work extensively with at-risk children, helping them identify their emotions and develop socially. As a state subsidized preschool, we follow the department of education framework for early learning curriculum and the children are assessed through drdp (desired results developmental profiles) observations to chart their development. We serve up to 30 children daily, with a 1:8 teacher-to-student ratio.
the safe house provides refuge in a confidential location for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Established in 1977 as one of the first 15 battered women's shelters in the country, women seeking safety from domestic violence can call the hotline (546-1234) to be screened for the ywca's therapeutic 60-day residential program known as the safe house. The ywca also provides community advocacy at the family justice center and as a partner with sonoma works. Through these partnerships, we provide advocacy for victims of domestic violence on site.
