I was privileged to see first hand the work for clean water and sanitation that World Class-Ghana is doing in villages near Accra. There is no question that important needs of local people are being met. Just as importantly, local people lead the way to the production of a new well or latrine. World Class is very respectful of the opinions and needs of the people they serve. Anyone who supports World Class-Ghana can be sure their efforts are making a positive difference in the lives of very poor people.

World Class is an incredible organization. I really felt like I was very involved from the moment I made my donation. This organization puts their heart and soul into this cause- and it is contagious! Water for bathing and consumption is a right that we take for granted... this charity works to enforce this basic human right!

I was recently made awar of this organization through a good friend who has joined the board. I firmly believe we desperately need more organizaztions like this, run by women for women and their families. Studies show that when we empower women to change their lives and the lives of their families, we have a huge impact on the whole world. Kudos to World Class-Ghana Inc!!

I was a founding member of World Class with my 1971 graduating class at Skidmore College. I have found the work accomplished to be significant to the recipients and rewarding to the donors. The strengthening of society through providing for basic needs, like clean water, sanitation and the ability to support one's family are key to all.

During the summer of 1969, I traveled extensively in Africa with a group of students who had taken a course in African Studies and were witnessing first-hand some of what they had studied. The trip was illuminating in many ways, among them giving us a clear sense of the hardships in the lives of so many Africans, hardships that include, conspicuously, water availability and quality. When I learrned of World Class, I thought their mission admirable, but I was not certain that they would be able to sustain the commitment and drive necessary to have a chance to meet that mission. I needn't have worried: The founders have shown admirable resolve, and the organization has already made significant changes in the lives of many in Ghana, through wells built and planned, through low-cost loans to women, through training of local staff. I supported this organization initially to help it get off the ground; I support it now because I know that it is doing good work, and that it will continue to do so.

World Class Ghana is exceptional in the work it does, accomplishing so much with small resources. The organization also informs its donors often and effectively as to what is being done. They have grown from small beginnings and I am glad to have given to them. They also are very appreciative of what is given and do not resort to high pressure methods.

I became aware of World Class several years ago and upon learning more about the organization from the founders my wife and I decided to make a donation to support their efforts. Since that first connection we have seen the progress and have been most impressed. Tangible results are reported through periodic newsletters and emails. Pictures have shown the water projects as well as the basic sanitation projects. I have had phone conversations with the founders and understand their passion. Having just returned from Tanzania, I can better appreciate the work that World Class is doing. Our donations have increased each year and we are proud to be affiliated with World Class.

World Class-Ghana Inc. concentrates on providing clean water and sanitation for villages within Ghana that so deperately need these basic necessities. The funding has come predominently from donations of individuals. A few dedicated members of our college graduating class saw a need and have worked long and hard to help the people in Ghana to have a fighting chance at basic life services. The organization is small and all donations go directly to the cause.

since i have traveled to ghana i know how important this organization is to these people. world class is doing the kind of work that is necessary rather than just giving aid to people, it helps people stand up on their own - with just a little bit of help from outside. i cannot think of a more worthy endeavor than helping women help themselves because women are the backbone of the family and the community.

I am a member of the class of 1971 at Skidmore College and helped to bring speakers to our 35th reunion on micro lending in Ghana. We learned the needs of the women there and worked on a plan to help. I am proud to be a donor to World Class-Ghana. The work the group has done in a short period of time has enhanced the lives of many. It started with micro lending to women and grew to digging wells and creating latrines in poor villages. This helps the whole village rather than just a few.

World Class-Ghana is helping people to get opportunities to move beyond poverty and disease...so that they can fulfill thier potential and care for their families. It seems that women, as the family-oriented adults in many families, can often make much with very little and use their new resources to benefit their communities. Although this is not the whole answer to the world's problems, small steps like these contribute to a better world for us all. I am involved in microfinance and have a number of friends who are working with World Class.

Clean water and sanitation are expected in our own communities, but available in many communities in Ghana only with the help of outside volunteers and donors. A grant for $5000 will go far as World Class-Ghana helps the people begin to address these needs. It will contribute to improved health and life style of the people, enable them to move on to increased independence, and demonstrate the goodness and generosity of the American people.

World Class-Ghana is one of the most positive and successful organizations that I have been involved with. The people directly involved with administering the funds for the wells and sanitation facilities, as well as the micro-lending are extremely organized and are very good at relaying information and progress to all of us. We have proof of the success of our donations and their work. The women who work directly with the people in the villages have sent us many photographs, journals, etc. We know just what's going on and it makes us feel more connected to the progress. I am a social justice activist and donor to many social justice causes.
World Class Ghana was brought to my attention by a long time friend (we met in college in 1960) who is on the Board of Directors. I read about their work in providing micro financing for water and sanitation in rural Ghana. These are critical to the survival and health of the people served. They use well established principles of micro-finance, including group support and technical assistance to ensure that loans are repaid. Staff in the US are all volunteers, so all funds received go into the projects. A little goes a long way. The leaders are well-educated and dedicated to sharing the power and privilege of their success for the benefit of others.

I am a retired political scientist specializing in Third World issues. It is very clear that throughout the Third World, water and sanitation are critical issues to large numbers of people in rural and small town settings. World Class-Ghana represents a relatively new initiative to address these issues in one region of Ghana. It is small, low-overhead, and well-organized to get results at modest cost.

I worked in the field of Health and Human Services in NH for 30 years. What is difficult for many to understand is that basics come first. Providing a means for clean water and sanitation is the first of many steps and a step that must occur. While I do not have "hands on" experience with this program, the fact that it is run by volunteers and works at a local level in Ghana to determine priorities is what makes a successful program.

This is a very small organization that has made a big impact with very little money, committed organizers, and a tiny staff in Ghana. When the idea was introduced at our college reunion, I thought it was a nice idea but impractical. I was wrong: the organization has funded women businesspeople, educated students, and provided important valued services to the local residents. I am proud of Barbara and Judy whose volunteer efforts, including regular visits to Ghana at their own expense, have kept the programs productive and valued, the Ghanaian staff, and my fellow donors who have consistently provided necessary funding and support. I have never been part of anything so direct and accountable!

In my opinion World Class Ghana does an exceptional job of bringing donors into its projects with photos and updates and personal communication. This really encourages contributions. It also helps to know that, with an all-volunteer US staff behind it, so much of the money donated goes directly to providing water and other necessities for basic human dignity to the people it serves.

This small, all-volunteer nonprofit [with just two paid local staff in Ghana] has made things happen for the the communities we serve that much larger, better-funded organizations have not been able to accomplish. In addition to helping the women of these communities build businesses to support their families economically, our primary focus has become improving water and sanitation -- issues that are critical to the health and dignity of all residents of these townships. With great efficiency, maximizing every dollar and collaborating with community residents in the efforts, we have funded and installed fresh water pumps and latrines where there were none.

Additionally, our members/donors are kept informed of the issues [global and local], our efforts, successes, and outcomes -- at a specific and personal level -- so that we become more informed and engaged philanthropists and world citizens.

I work in the nonprofit/social enterprise space as a consultant and as a funder. Based on size, World Class -Ghana is by far the most effective, efficient, and impactful organization I have encountered; and my involvement, from the start, has been enormously satisfying.

As a co-founder, board member, and president of World Class-Ghana, I am biased, of course. However, I think we have accomplished a lot with a little in a relatively brief span of time for the women and children we serve in greater Amasaman, Ghana. Since our inception in the fall of 2006, we have received total donations in the amount of roughly $125,000. With it we have drilled 3 wells, connected electric pumps and tank reservoirs to 2 of them, constructed a 12-unit composting latrine with rainwater catchment provisions for handwashing, provided connection to electric service for one school and the area council building, and over 550 loans to over 300 women in the communities we serve. We have also provided gainful employment to our Ghanaian staff of 2. We can do all this because we have a working board of volunteers assisted by members who have donated legal, accounting, and IT services. Board members traveling to Ghana pay the bulk of their travel expenses themselves. We have no office expense or salaries to pay in the US. We are stricly a "no frills" organization with an emphasis on sticking to our mission of providing access to credit, clean water, and sanitation to the area we serve. We believe that it isn't what you can dream up, but what you can actually get done that makes an organization effective. Despite our tiny size, I think we are succeeding in that approach.

World Class is very successful at making a relatively small amount of money go a long way in meeting very basic needs that will make a significant difference in people's lives, working in several poor communities in Ghana.

The goal of World Class is to provide access to credit, clean water, and sanitation, thereby helping to provide better health and more sustainable livelihoods for the women and children of those communities.

In four short years, World Class has provided over 350 women with 550 microloans, constructed two wells and a latrine facility in one community, and is completing a new well in another community.

Need help?
