Causes: Christianity, Religion

Mission: Aglow International is an intercultural transdenominational organization of Christian women with more than 3,500 fellowships in more than 151 nations. Our mission is to lead women to Jesus Christ and provide opportunity for Christian women to grow in their faith and minister to others. Aglow's vision to impact the lives of women worldwide is expressed in the strategic focuses of: Prayer, Evangelism, Relationship, and Reconciliation.

Aglow International was founded in 1967 by four American women who prayed for a way to reach out to other Christian women in simple fellowship, free from denominational constraints. The first meeting drew more than 100 women to a local hotel. Today Aglow touches the lives of an estimated 1,000,000 women on six continents through local group meetings, Bible studies, seminars, retreats, conferences, and various outreaches.

I was a active member of women's Tri-State Aglow Lighthouse organization in 2003; attending meetings, helping to organize meeting outreach in our community, composing and production of our local newletter, attending and assisting local meeting, and in addition to donating time and money, I attended the world conference held in Indianapolis. I left this organization after over 3 years, extemely disappointed and disillusioned by the leadership at our local level. After countless efforts to encourage our local leaders to be involved in community outreach in service and helping women abused, in shelters, feeding homeless, etc. I was twarted in my efforts to gain support, by women who were more interested in food being served at our meetings and who was bringing what, religious videos or speakers that were at our next meeting...needless to say I became extremely frustrated at not being able to effectively use our resourses to help those less fortunate in our community, and by the contradictions in the teachings and the purpose of this organization. I left, I walked out on meeting in which a video was shown of our president at the time. This organization at the time I was a member was not conducive to the Cristian theology I had learned..I continue to paray not only for this organization but also those Christian organizations that are self-serving and contrary to the teachings of God's word.
