Mission: Define, establish and support one or more specifications that provide for wireless multimedia connectivity and interoperability between devices for personal use in a networked environment. Provide a neutral forum for enhancement and augmentation of the standards. Foster the rapid adoption of these specifications and standards by developers of related products and services. Create and administer product certification critera for multi-vendor interoperability. Educate businesses and consumers about the benefits and applications for wireless multimedia products in a personal network. Establish liaisons with other organizations that develop specifications and standards for wireless products. Foster competition in development of products and services and comply with all antitrust laws.
Programs: Wimedia alliance provides a neutral and open forum for multiple industry segments to establish requirements, specifications, and best practices for usability and interoperability for wireless multimedia networking. wimedia alliance is providing the environment to develop, maintain, enhance and reference technical specifications for: physical layer radio; medium access control; convergence architecture, including support for multiple wireless applications; a protocol adaptation layer for internet protocol; and ip-based application profiles. wimedia alliance is running a compliance, certification and interoperability program with compliance test specifications and logos for, and in cooperation with, multiple industry based organizations, such as the usb-if and the 1394ta. Wimedia has been endorsed by the wireless usb promoter group as a common platform for their next generation wireless implementations, and the 1394ta has approved wimedias medium access control layer development.
