Programs: The 47th season opened on october 22th with royal tributes, led by music director david grandis at the ernst center, highlighting the works of haydn, arnold, argento, and finzi. An impromptu post-concert patron dinner was held at j gilbert's restaurant in mclean. A collaborative concert with the mason symphony orchestra was held on wednesday, march 28, 2018, conducted by dennis layendecker at the gmu center for the arts concert hall. The mason symphony played bach's orchestral suite in d major and brahm's symphony no. 1 in c minor. The vco played barber's adagio for strings. The combined orchestras performed bernstein's west side story suite. The vco's spring concert, promise of summer was held on april 22, 2018. The concert included barber's knoxville: summer of 1915, featuring stephanie marx, soprano. Works by frank, busser and borowski followed. On saturday, march 16, 2018, jennifer rickard, violin and andrew axelrad, flute performed a variety of selections. On saturday, june 28, 2018, the vco presented 19, the musical, a performance by through the 4th wall in alexandria. The show is a songfest of music from composer, charlie barnett and tells the story of suffragist, alice paul.
