Causes: Family Planning, Health, Reproductive Rights
Mission: Venture strategies is working to strengthen the well-being of people in low resource countries around the world, by improving women's health, and by broadening understanding of the importance of slowing population growth within a voluntary, human rights framework.
Programs: Venture strategies for health and development (vshd) helps policy makers, including those in the ministries of planning and finance, as well as foreign aid agencies and the informed public, to have a clearer understanding of the population growth factor in health and development. Vshd has sponsored the initial creation of the african institute for development policy (afidep) based in nairobi, kenya. Afidep translates complex research into useful information for policymakers in low resource countries, to help them achieve successful development in the context of challenges in population and health. Vshd produced a published "public access" article describing the problems in the long-held standard theories of what makes birth rates decline. The article is titled "the impact of freedom on fertility decline", describing the importance of reducing the barriers that in many countries make family planning, to which most women want to have access, unnecessarily difficult for them to obtain.
