Mission: To promote education and participation in activities that focus on health, food security, good sportsmanship, and land stewardship and conservation for children and adults from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
Programs: Jane goodal wants to introduce her roots and shoots program to permaculture and use valley park agroecology center as its homebase. In 2015,the foundation conducted a camp to introduce permaculture to the shoots international elite program at the disney center in orlando fl. We are now working with roots & shoots groups in uganda and tanzania to use permaculture as a means to establish food security and to lessen animal/human conflict in areas where the chimpanzee is threatened by human encroachment. The valley foundation is working to introduce sustainable farming on properties owned by compatible lands foundation. We are also launching a very exciting project to create perennial food forests on land set aside for buffer zones around military bases. We will be working with soldiers and vets with ptsd, teaching them skills of permaculture while using gardening as a healing process. This program will be partially funded by the department of defense with the first land already purchased bordering fort hood, tx. Through the introduction of ruth kaiser nelson, past chairman of the board at tulsa housing authority, we have begun working with the tulsa housing authority to fight food insecurity and promote community building in subsidized housing complexes in north tulsa, at walt whitman school and emerson school, we have established a connection with the tulsa school district and hope to start food security programs at every school in north tulsa.
