Causes: International, Promotion of International Understanding
Mission: To advance understanding of various trends that could affect the prospects, course, and consequences of conflict having an important military dimension and the importance of sound policies to maintain and further international peace and security and civilized international relations.
Programs: Us friends awarded four grants during the fiscal year - one to the iiss armed conflict programme, two to iiss-americas office, and one to the economic and energy security programme. The grant to the armed conflict programme supported core programmatic costs arising during 2016 and 2017, including but not limited to research salaries, travel and event costs. The primary products of the armed conflict programme are the annual armed conflict survey and the regularly updated armed conflict database. Iiss-americas received a grant in support of outreach and event programming in new york and elsewhere in north america outside of washington, dc. The grant covers staff and speaker travel as well as event expenses such as room rental and refreshments. The grant allows iiss americas to better engage its constituents and cultivate new members in these areas. Iiss-americas also received a grant to fund a database subscription to leadership directories to assist in their outreach to the us foreign policy-making community. The grant to the economic and energy security programme supported the greening of asia research project. The grant specifically supported expenses related to workshops and events with experts and stake-holders in new delhi, singapore, beijing and tokyo.
