CorpsAfrica Volunteers are committed to uplifting every individual in the communities they serve, including those living with disabilities. Through skills training in liquid soap production, a 17-year-old girl living with the stigma of a birth defect called clubfoot, was able to secure an additional source of income to support herself and her mother. Despite having to drop out of school at an early age, this dedicated training from a CorpsAfrica Volunteer has helped her engage more with her community, uplifting her spirit and bringing fulfillment to her life.

CorpsAfrica is development work redefined with a human centered approach. Understanding the pivotal role that communities should play in their own development by leveraging local resources has been a winning approach for the organization. Through its youth volunteering program CorpsAfrica has been able to marry the need for personal and professional development of youth and communities' strive for development.

What I admire most about CorpsAfrica is its community-led approach, which empowers African communities to make their own decisions rather than having solutions imposed on them. Additionally, CorpsAfrica fosters a spirit of volunteerism among the youth, encouraging them to serve and contribute to the development of their own countries.

As a volunteer with CorpsAfrica, I had the privilege of fully engaging in the development of my country. During my time in the village of Djilacounda in Senegal, I collaborated closely with community members to identify their most pressing issues. Together, we developed sustainable activities and projects that addressed and solved many of these problems. By leveraging simple ideas and small-scale funding, we made significant contributions to the local community's development. The success of this initiative enabled me to further my international volunteering experience in Rwanda, where I gained valuable insights into cultural adaptation and enriched my skills and understanding.

I started volunteering for CorpsAfrica since 2017, During my coordination of several projects I have worked in, I have been doing several tasks at the same time which helped me first learn new skills in several elements of project management including budgeting, planning of activities, communicating with stockholders, reporting and designing activities. My extensive volunteer work has helped me to master that balance between being accountable for creating impact and creating opportunities for others to shine.

I take great pride in my service with the organization in Morocco back in 2015. The comprehensive experience, from the training phase to actively serving the community and networking with other NGOs, has profoundly shaped my life and significantly enhanced both my personal and professional skills. I had the opportunity to learn invaluable lessons in leadership and communication. These skills not only empowered me to effectively engage with the community but also equipped me to navigate various challenges with resilience and determination. Additionally, the experience cultivated a sense of flexibility within me, enabling me to approach situations from diverse perspectives and adapt to changing circumstances adeptly.

It was a great and an awesome experience to serve as a CorpsAfrica Malawi volunteer from 2018 to 2019. By serving as a CorpsAfrica volunteer in a rural area I was able to give back to the community and made positive change whilst at the same time I was able to gain work experience for my career growth in the field of community. During my volunteering service with CorpsAfrica I was able to successfully implement a mini irrigation project which increased income flow among smallholder farmers hence reducing poverty at household level. E I would highly recommend young Africans to serve as a CorpsAfrica Volunteer.

As an African, I am inspired by CorpsAfrica’s mission and impact of development driven by and for Africans. And as someone who deeply believes in community service and giving backing, I know that simply wanting to help is not enough; initiatives have to come from local communities. This is the key issue in development, especially African-focused development, that is often overlooked. But CorpsAfrica understands that service is not about the individual but about finding the best way to serve the communities in a way that is needed and in the way that they want. It is with much excitement that, I am writing to express my gratitude to you for giving an opportunity to serve as a CorpsAfrica Volunteer. My interest in social change-related initiatives dates back to my early upbringing within underserved communities as an orphan. One of the main highlights of this experience of mine is that I realized that a lack of functioning social justice policies, institutions, and commitment consistently put people in those communities at the center of different global greatest challenges: Poor healthcare, poverty, hunger, and different forms of environmental degradation, especially in developing countries like Rwanda.

I strongly believe that volunteering is highly rewarding work if done with a willing heart. Through my volunteer work with CorpsAfrica, I was able to achieve one of my major life goals. One of my main objectives was to pursue a master's degree and my volunteer experience has enabled me to gain admittance to one of the most prestigious universities in East Africa. I was recently accepted with a substantial scholarship to the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda.

I'd like to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone at CorpsAfrica (staff, volunteers, and, of course, my community) for laying the groundwork for my personal and professional development. I will not take this for granted; instead, I will do my best to improve service delivery and provide high-quality health care in communities that need it the most. Thank you, Liz Fanning, for founding CorpsAfrica and providing young Africans with the opportunity to discover their full potential in serving and giving back to the community.

I have been involved with non profits in Africa for the past twenty one years, both as a volunteer and a donor. All the organizations meant well and a couple of them have made had a real impact, but when I heard about CorpsAfrica I was thrilled. Finally people with expertise doing it right, with all the right ideas. This has finally happened, an organization that realizes Africans helping other Africans is the way. They have already proven themselves and now they are expanding. I support this effort wholeheartedly and look forward to the sustainable long term impact that this organization will have at a time when Africa needs this most. The support they will provide will enable so much change from inside African communities working with their own. I can't wait to see what they continue to do. Thank you CorpsAfrica.

I am a member of Rotary International and am leading a project to build an irrigation aqueduct in my former Peace Corps village in Morocco's High Atlas Mountains. We have engaged Corps Africa to provide the "boots on the ground" support in the village to help coordinate and oversee the project. Corps Africa volunteers Hamza Aboubaigi (second from left in first photo) and Mustafa Essalai (on right, in red) have been instrumental in developing the plan for the project. While I previously lived in the same village 20 years ago, I would not have identified the criteria for the project as Hamza and Mustafa were able to figure out shortly after arriving on site. I've been a supporter of CorpsAfrica virtually since it's inception. I love its ideal of sending young volunteers, mostly from cities, out into rural areas, which are generally totally foreign to these young people. I think the practice of having/helping local people decide on what they most need that CorpsAfrica can help them achieve AND insisting that they provide significant input (venue, labor, material, etc) to the realization of the project is exactly what's needed to encourage development that is truly sustainable. I've also been happy to see young Moroccans volunteering to work in other African countries. This was one of the goals in the beginning, & I'm encouraged to see it working.

CorpsAfrica is an amazing initiative and even more so movement in Africa. Based on the US Peace Corps model is has developed volunteer programs in Morocco, Malawi and Senegal ~ Africans helping Africans. CorpsAfrica started by a former Peace Corps Volunteer offers a similar transformative experience to emerging young leaders in Africa – giving them the chance to be a part of the solution for their own countries.

As a volunteer facilitator, I recently participated in CorpsAfrica's all~countries Conference in Morocco. It was a moving experience for me being a part of this Conference. Young Moroccan, Malawian and Senegalese volunteers came together to learn, participate, share, eat and experience Morocco together ~ developing lifelong friendships. I saw firsthand how their volunteer experience in African villages and small towns have transformed them into confident and compassionate adults that believe that they can make a difference and together can seek solutions for many of the pressing issues in their countries. Listening to their stories on the work they are doing and the impact that they have on the people they are serving, and even more the impact that their experiences have on them, was a hopeful opening into a world where many African youth are disenfranchised and hold little hope. These young adults give one hope for a bright future! CorpsAfrica is able to tap the idealism and energy of young people and give them confidence and optimism – while at the same time giving them the transformative experience similar to that of Peace Corps volunteers – helping to shape their view of the world and their own future.
My hat goes off to this movement and I hope that CorpsAfrica will be able to expand its vision into many other African countries. Its a NGO that deserves to be ranked as one of the best as its work developing its volunteer programs and alumni association is unparalleled. The impact this small NGO has had on Africa is already large and impressive!

CorpsAfrica is a sustainable and innovative enterprise, leading change by working on numerous scales, from communities to international relationships. Rather than intervening and solving problems for struggling nations, CorpsAfrica provides the necessary resources and supervises rather than intervenes. CorpsAfrica is truthfully unique in its purpose and mission, separating it from any other non-profit doing work in Africa. Overall, CorpsAfrica is championing an important mission, empowering individuals throughout Africa and assisting them to lead their communities out of poverty and into success.

CorpsAfrica is an innovative and sustainable non-profit that is tackling multiple social issues by promoting intercultural exchange, participatory community development, and grassroots volunteerism. As a Peace Corps Volunteer I have benefitted from CorpsAfrica Volunteers' know-how and presence in my region of service. I have seen firsthand how CorpsAfrica volunteers embody the talented, passionate, and savvy leaders who are eager to make positive impacts in their communities, countries, regions, and the world. With CorpsAfrica's locally-based, globally-minded volunteer approach, international development does not have to be a field plagued by paternalism and dependency. Instead, it becomes an embodiment of understanding and cooperation that starts with open-minded individuals and the communities they learn from and contribute to.

Corps Africa is a wonderful way to make a dream a reality!
As its motto says, it is a redefinition of development.

The key to its success and its major innovation are empowerment of the young volunteer and the fact of making him/her a key actor of his/her development while serving his/her community.

Youth succeed to gain an extraordinary experience and thus overcomes their different fears.

"Il fallait y penser", someone should have thought of that and the Founder, always inspired by a simple approach the design thinking, dit it !

I'm very excited to be part of this great adventure. Being in daily contact with young students, this project gives hope and even goes further, it can realize dreams!

Well done!

//

Excellente continuation.

The coming of CorpsAfrica in Malawi has created a unique platform for young people like myself to give back to my very communities. Especially the fact that CorpsAfrica hinges more on Locals helping Locals which in fact is a more fertile ground for sustainable development.
And through a tailor made and intense intense training in the Human Centred Design HCD, I'm able as a volunteer to put the people in my community at the centre of everything. We observe together, discover needs and community assets together and design sustainably solutions giving birth to lifetime projects together, this way community ownership is embedded right in the blood of our projects. See, I wouldn't have been able to write and share this of not for CorpsAfrica.
I'm more proud to belong to this amazing family, our communities will never be the same because CorpsAfrica is indeed redefining community development!
Viva CorpsAfrica, viva real community development!

CorpsAfrica is a non-profit that becomes part of my life. I volunteered two years with CorpsAfrica; the first year was in my country_ Morocco, and I am in my second year, in Senegal. Being part of CorpsAfrica makes me learn manythings about myself and my abilities, such as my ability to live and integrate in a different culture, my ability to learn a new language and communicate with local communities using it, also the ability to be flexible and open to change, and etc.
In addition to that, CorosAfrica brings new philosophy to community development using creative methods that is the community is the core of the development and the volunteer is the facilitator.
Thus, supporting CorosAfrica means giving the youths the opportunity to know themselves and the communities to think about their difficulties.

I met the founder of CorpsAfrica, Liz Fanning, at its inception in 2011, and I was immediately drawn to the enormous potential such an organization could have in a continent that dwells on understanding and cooperation. I admire the sense of ownership CorpsAfrica gives to its volunteers and its commitment to empowering communities in need by giving them a chance to be a part of the growth and evolution of their very own countries.

As an African myself, I am honored to see CorpsAfrica's work in action in high-poverty communities in Morocco that are in dire need of assistance in education, small business development and basic infrastructure.

Liz Fanning had a veritable vision of the potential for growth for Morocco and the African continent at large, a vision that would highlight the wealth of our communties and allow for considerable development, stability and sustainability.
