Programs: Developing youth and children to their full potential: united way gives kids a better chance at success and the opportunity to realize their full potential through quality child care, mentoring, tutoring, after-school programs, character development, initiatives that improve academic success, basic needs assistance, adoption, foster care and health care. Last year, united way touched the lives of 318,000 children and young youth and 81% of students in united way programs were more successful in school.
strengthening families and neighborhoods: strong families and safe neighborhoods are the backbone of our community. United way services benefited 691,000 family members through job skills and career readiness, financial coaching and literacy courses, credit building, parenting classes, family counseling, health care and basic needs assistance. Last year, united way of greater houstons family financial stability initiative, united way thrive helped 67,000 families establish a path to financial stability.
supporting those rebuilding their lives: last year, 788,000 individuals got the help they needed rebuilding their lives after crises through basic needs assistance, mental health services, housing and emergency shelter, domestic violence services, substance abuse services and assistance with needs such as transportation and life skills.
