Mission: Producing and developing plays and musicals
Programs: Transport group stages new works and re-imagines revivals by american writers. Our visually progressive productions of emotionally classic stories explore the challenges of relationships and identity in modern america. Founded in 2001, we have produced twenty-five mainstage productions (twelve plays and thirteen musicals) comprised of ten world premieres, four new york premieres and eleven revivals. Our revivals are significant re-imaginings of classic yet infrequently produced material; our new pieces tackle challenging subject matter. Employing text, design, performance and music as equally and mutually dependent elements, we strive to create a synergy that elevates each piece and moves audiences to become intimately, emotionally and intellectually engaged. Productions are attended by 4,000-8,000 people annually and other one-night concerts, events and workshops attract an additional 500-800 people annually. Our audiences are theatergoers in the new york tri-state area. In the 2016-2017 season, transport group produced a 3-concert series that celebrates modern and classic musicals. This year's concerts included peter pan, queen of the mist, and a man of no importance. Also this year, we produced two mainstage productions, two william inge plays to perform in rotating repertory: picnic and come back, little sheba. All productions and concerts are directed by jack cummings iii.
