Mission: Touro infirmary is dedicated to improving the health status and well being of the people it serves through the provision of effective, efficient and compassionate healthcare services.
Programs: The hospital provides inpatient, outpatient, emergency and critical care, home health and rehabilitation services. The hospital has 213 adult beds, 77 rehabilitation beds, 22 icu beds and 48 ob beds for a total of 360 licensed beds. The hospital treated 14,179 inpatients and had 272,113 outpatient visits in 2016. There were 7,523 surgeries (inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory surgery center), 32,526 emergency department visits and 3,426 deliveries.
touro infirmary is a teaching hospital offering medical student and post graduate medical training. It has academic affiliations with louisiana state university health sciences center and tulane university health science center. Touro offered training programs to 574 students, residents and fellows in 2016 in the specialties of internal medicine, emergency medicine, cardiology, neurology, general surgery, gastroenterology, nicu, ob/gyn, general vascular surgery, omfs, med/peds, neonatology, pediatrics, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, pm&r, pain management, pulmonary, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, and urology. Touro is also a clinical training site for allied health programs for various metro new orleans colleges, including louisiana state university, delgado community college, dillard university, holy cross college, and southern university. Touro currently offers training programs to students in respiratory, radiology and nursing. Touro staff provided 9,302 hours of support to the 57 students in these programs. In 2016, touro rehabilitation center provided clinical training to physical, occupational, speech therapy, rehab counseling and therapeutic recreation students from colleges around the country, including: lsu health sciences (new orleans, la, southeastern, la); delgado community college (new orleans, la); university of massachusetts lowell (lowell, ma); southeastern louisiana university (hammond, la); southern university (baton rouge, la); university of alabama (birmingham, al); southern university (new orleans, la); mcgill university (canada); and dillard university (new orleans, la)). Touro staff provided 4,023 hours of support to 108 students and/or teaching groups.
community health services and community benefit operations provide free health education programs and screenings to the community. These programs are designed to focus on some of the most prevalent diseases in the new orleans community, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. These programs address prevention, early detection, treatment and maintaining healthy lifestyles. In 2016, touro offered or participated in 205 total community outreach events, which were attended by 4,483 people. Touro offers a health career camp, a five-day program that allows high school students to gain hands-on experience in the medical field. The program is an initiative that touro hopes will encourage students to actively consider a career in medicine in new orleans. Participants come from across the metro area and emphasis is placed on recruiting students from underserved areas who may not otherwise have the opportunity and exposure to healthcare careers.

Touro additionally provided $113,750 in meeting space free of charge to local non-profits and other organizations for the benefit of the community.
