Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Homeless & Housing, Homeless Shelters

Mission: Thorpe Family Residence was opened on May 1, 1989 by the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill. Its mission is to provide a house of peace that fosters respect for the dignity of each person. The purpose of opening Thorpe was to help alleviate the problem of homelessness, as well as to empower women so that they may learn to live independently. Thorpe Family Residence's goals are to provide a safe and peaceful environment, to improve parenting, employment and independent living skills, and to obtain permanent housing. Also, because many of the women who come to Thorpe have been victims of abuse, it tries, through certain services, to help them heal their wounds and gain back their pride and self-confidence.
