Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Homeless & Housing, Homeless Shelters

Mission: Christ House is open to men of every faith including those of no faith We should treat every person, including ourselves, with respect - because God has made us all, and we are therefore important in and of ourselves. We should treat all things with the respect due them - because they are part of God’s creative plan. While we should not focus our lives on things as if they alone give happiness, we must avoid all waste and destructiveness We should approach our problems prayerfully - because our human existence is shrouded in the mystery of God’s creative will. We must remember that we did not choose our personhood, our talents, who we are or can be, our moment in time to be born, our race, color, gender, or sexual orientation. We should be filled with great hope and trust - because God has not commanded us to be successful in any particular way. God asks only that we strive to know and love God better, and in all creation, until the day we die. The mission of Christ House is to provide a residence for men who have troubled circumstances and are in need of a place they can call home. Christ House provides a home setting for up to six months if the applicants are willing to follow the house rules and procedures.

Results: Our results are great, but we strive to do even greater.

Geographic areas served: Our clients come from all parts of the world

Programs: During 2012, christ house started with 8 residents, 6 were able to get jobs and independent housing, and we took in 6 new ones closing the year with 8 residents. The house also took in a short term resident at the request of catholic charities on 3 separate occasions during the year.

Hi, my name is Isack. I came to the USA as a refugee since my home country had been in a civil war for over 15 years. I lived at Christ house as I went through the process of applying for asylum/refugee status. What would you do if you found yourself in a far and foreign country with practically nothing, and with nobody to turn to and not by choice but by war? Well, Christ house helped me first by assisting me with a place to stay, helped me to find and live with people who had the same experiences like mine, helped understand the american culture and showed me how to evolve in the American society and become a contributing member of the community. Through Christ house help and encouragement, I was able to find a job and go to college to prepare for med school.
I find Christ house unique because it helps refugees from all over the world and prepare them to become valuable members of the American society. Without Christ house I could not have achieved what I have been able to accomplish and I am forever thankful to God for having such place in New York City.

Hi everyone,

Im from Mozambique. I came to US looking for isylum when I got here I didn't have place to go. Ice got me in detentin for almost 2 years. But there is one place that I would like to underline Chist House it's an immigrant shelter that immigrants from different country live together in the harmony even without knowing each others languages of origin. This house helped me put my life together in the US, I got my Medicaid, my work authorization, I started looking for job and I found one. Chist house is my identity here in New York. Now I won my case, I have got my green card. I would like to thank Chist House for everything this organization did for me. You are in my hearth and I will always consider this place my home.
