Mission: To empower low-income youth to build self-esteem, self-discipline and a sense of accomplishment through dance, academic and family programs. Breaking the cycle of poverty through generational change is the long-term vision of The Wooden Floor.
Results: Since our founding in 1983, The Wooden Floor has touched the lives of over 90,000 young people. Since 2005, 100 percent of students who graduate from The Wooden Floor immediately enroll in higher education.
Target demographics: Young people in low-income communities.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Nearly 500 young people through year-round programs and about an additional 3,000 students through our community engagement efforts in public schools.
Geographic areas served: Orange County, CA and nationally through licensed partners.
Programs: We use a long-term approach grounded in exploratory dance education to foster the confidence and gifts within each child to innovate, communicate, and collaborate – skills necessary for success in school and in life. 100 percent of students who graduate from The Wooden Floor immediately enroll in higher education. Our students become change agents and beacons of hope within their own families, their neighborhoods, our community, and our world.
I am an alumni of The Wooden Floor (St. Joseph's Ballet back then) and I am forever greatful for all of the experiences and opportunities they gave me. I am thrilled my daughter has the opportunity to be a part of this organization now. Her love for dance and education is strongly supported by all that The Wooden Floor has to offer. From parent workshops to amazing dance concerts to weekly tutoring and so much more, The Wooden Floor never stops. If you have a chance to donate, do so here. They truly create impact and empowerment for young children and impact our families in more ways than one. I am now one of the parent representatives of The Board and am so thrilled to hear about their continued efforts to their missions. This organization means a lot to many families and our community.
