Mission: Through our mental health, housing, nutrition and parent enrichment programs we empower families to create nurturing environments that give children of all ages the skills, support and security to live fulfilling lives.
Programs: Mental health services: since 1957, the whole child has provided comprehensive mental health services to infants, children, teenagers and their families to help them heal, develop resilience and rebuild emotionally healthy lives. Our parent child interaction therapy (pcit) is a specialized program working with parents and children together to improve the quality of the parent-child relationship and to teach parents the skills necessary to manage their child's severe behavior problems. The whole child also provides internship opportunities for graduate-level students. Our multidisciplinary assessment team (mat) was recognized by the los angeles department of mental health for being the mat provider of the year for fy 2016-17.
housing services: the whole child's everychild family housing program provides housing services utilizing the housing first model for homeless families. Homelessness ends when the family is stabilized in permanent, affordable housing with support services and our team empowering families to maintain permanent affordable housing. To help stabilize families, mental health services, job training and placement, money management and life skills are provided. Our agency is the family solutions center (fsc) serving east los angeles as part of the la county coordinated entry system (ces). Our "imagine whittier" project is a newly launched mentorship program to assist families exiting homelessness. This is a collaborative effort between the whole child, imagine la, greenleaf and the whittier consortium on homelessness. This mentorship program empowers families to transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency while helping every member of the family thrive.
birth to five services: our birth to five services is an early intervention and prevention program therapeutically designed to support the developmental and emotional needs of infants (0-5) and their families who are at-risk for developmental, social or family issues. It strengthens the development and health of children in stable parent-child relationships to reduce and eliminate risk for abuse and neglect. A spectrum of therapeutic services for infants and toddlers and their parents which include: child-parent psychotherapy, incredible years, parents as teachers, positive parenting program and infant massage.
champions for change: in december 2016, our agency joined efforts through the california department of public health as part of the champions for change - healthy communities initiative to reduce the prevalence of obesity among low-income supplemental nutrition assistance program-education (snap-ed) eligible populations. This program focuses on nutrition education and physical activity to promote a healthier environment for children and families.
