Arts in education initiativesclassics in the classroom: in the 2013-2014 season, we continued our dedication to our flagship, year-long sequential arts program. Classics in the classroom is designed to build students' understanding of, and facility with, dramatic literature through sequential opportunities to study classic works. Founded in 1992, the program meets new york state learning standards, nyc arts blueprint, and helps teachers to integrate arts learning into classroom curriculum. The pearl continued our relationships with our 7 partner schools this season: dreamyard prep in the bronx; queens high school for the sciences in jamaica, queens; young women's leadership school of east harlem; and notre dame academy in lower manhattan, and lyons community school based in east williamsburg, brooklyn. We also continued relationships with the 4 neighborhood schools we approached in the 2012-2013 season. In total, the program consists of 16 contact sessions (8 one-hour classroom sessions; 4 matinee trips to see the pearl's productions; and 4 talk-back sessions with pearl artists). The pearl also produced and provided 4 study guides for our students, containing content by our dramaturg, artistic director, and artistic associate; and was overseen by our education director, carol schultz. In the 2013-14 season we served 7 schools, 233 students, and 7 classroom teachers. D.
