Mission: The maple counseling center (tmcc) offers low fee comprehensive mental health services to people of all ages throughout los angeles county. Individual counseling, family counseling, and group therapy is provided and no one is turned away for lack of funds. Tmcc is a training center for graduate level mental health interns who are working toward licensure in the mental health field.
Programs: In 2017, over 80% of the center's headquarters clients were between 18 and 62, with the youngest client being 18 months and the oldest client 95 years. Tmcc counseling programs served primarily low-income clients. 71% of the clients had an annual income of $30,000 or less, with 52% of the clients having incomes under $20,000 a year; and 45% earned less than $15,000. The average fee was $24 per session. Over 4,000 clients were served in all programs combined, with 1,920 clients receiving counseling services at the headquarters facility and the remaining clients in schools and community based programs. Founded in 1972, tmcc currently has 15 program staff, 14 of whom are licensed clinicians who supervise 80 graduate level interns and specialized programs. These include a comprehensive adult program of individual and couples counseling, services for older adults, and therapeutic support groups. Specialized services are offered for children and adolescents. Each week, tmcc provides services to an average of 500 clients at its headquarters office, over 1,000 students in the local schools, and over 200 children and families at community-based partner organizations. Community collaborations have a dual goal of addressing unmet community needs and offering additional intern training opportunities. Collaborative partners currently include organizations in south and east los angeles.
