Mission: The Leonsis Foundation creates opportunities for children that enable them to reach their highest potential. The foundation partners with and supports organizations with the creativity, skill, and dedication to help children overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Believing that education is the key to self-empowerment, the foundation provides funding for scholarships, tutoring, and career mentoring that will expand students' horizons beyond their local neighborhood. The foundation also supports programs which develop technical proficiency with computers and the internet, since online communication provides individuals with new ways to break down barriers and gain knowledge. Health-related issues create additional challenges and roadblocks for some children, whether the child lacks access to adequate medical treatment or develops an incurable disease. Consequently, the foundation allocates resources to programs which focus on improving the odds that all children can lead healthy, active lives. Certain other social and extracurricular activities are of interest to the foundation provided they empower children and foster creative self-expression. These programs are evaluated on an individual basis to see how they may complement or enhance the education and health related projects already being funded. Unfortunately, many children face challenges and circumstances that create additional obstacles in their quest to succeed. The Leonsis Foundation firmly believes these children deserve the same opportunities and experiences that others take for granted. Together with the organizations it supports, the foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of children, educating their minds, and instilling in them the confidence to pursue their dreams.
