Mission: The college of staten island association, inc. Of the city university of new york is a nonprofit corporation created for the principal purpose of developing and cultivating educational, social, cultural, and recreational activities among students of the college of staten island. It assists students with their study, work, living, curricular, and co-curricular activities, and assists the college in its student related operations.
Programs: Child care: quality child care and early education programs were provided at the children's center for children of csi students while they attended classes and participated in other school-related activities. The children's center also served as a site for course-required student observations, fieldwork, internships and work study programs.
college support (see schedule o)college support: funding was provided to assist college offices with providing quality services and programs that support the college's academic mission and enhance the learning and development of its widely diverse population of students. Support included, but was not limited to, funding for professional and support staff in several college offices. Operating funds were provided for the college health center. Student activity fees were utilized to renovate and/or furnish campus spaces including the radio station and athletics. Funding was provided for campus transportation services including loop road shuttle services and transportation to and from the staten island ferry. Additionally, funding was provided to support the college's commencement exercises, nursing pinning ceremonies, annual awards banquets, the honors convocation and other commencement-related activities.
athletics & recreation - (see schedule o)athletics and recreation: funding was provided for 14 ncaa division iii athletic teams. Approximately 220 student-athletes participated in approximately 250 home and away contests. Through their involvement with the intramural & recreation program, students were provided with opportunities to strengthen their bodies and minds while partaking in some friendly competition. Among other activities, students took advantage of on-campus intramural activities including multiple sports leagues, tournaments, special events (including students vs. Faculty/staff games & cunyac games), open recreation time in the gym, and weekly instructional sessions (swimming, tennis and personal/weight training).
student activity fee funds were utilized to continue a wide range of programs, services and activities for students attending the college of staten island aimed at supporting, enhancing and complementing their academic experience and encouraging them to get involved in campus life. Through involvement with student government, the radio station, clubs and organizations, the campus activities board, publications and other campus committees, students were provided with opportunities to learn and practice leadership, programming, management, social responsibility and interpersonal skills. Opportunities for increased interaction among students, faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds as well as opportunities to make friends, form social bonds and have fun were provided through on-campus parties, musical events, lectures, comedy shows, special events, off-campus outings to theatrical performances, amusement parks and other points of interest.
