Mission: The American Center of Oriental Research in Amman, Jordan, founded in 1968, is a private, international, non-profit academic institution dedicated to promoting research and publication in the fields of archaeology, anthropology, history, Arabic and other languages, conservation, earth sciences, religious studies, and other aspects of Near Eastern studies. The objectives of the institute are: 1) to offer a base for visiting and resident scholars conducting research in Jordan and neighboring countries; 2) to provide technical resources, library facilities and public information programs which bring together Jordanian, American and international scholars on a year-round basis; and 3) to provide a forum for sharing the fruits of archaeological, historical and other humanities research.
