Programs: Instruction: texas wesleyan university was founded by the methodist episcopal church in 1890 and is the longest-serving higher education institution in fort worth. Its historic campus includes more than 75 acres, just four miles southeast of downtown and is on one of the highest points in the city. Led by president frederick g. Slabach, texas wesleyans 2020 vision strategic plan creates a roadmap for the future of the university, with key focuses on campus enhancement through the revitalization of its polytechnic heights neighborhood, marketing & branding, academic distinction, financial vitality and enhancing the student experience. Texas wesleyan offers undergraduate degrees in the schools of business, arts & letters, education and natural & social sciences. Additionally, texas wesleyan offers graduate degrees in the schools of business, education and health professions. The university offers an honors curriculum as well as a pre-professional program. Endowed funds support scholarships, speaker series and many academic programs beyond the classroom, including study abroad programs. Official enrollment for the fall 2016 term included 1,706 undergraduates and 675 graduate and professional students for a total enrollment of 2,381.
student services and academic support: career services provides academic support services through programming, classroom engagement, job/intern placement opportunities, and individual counseling appointments. Programming includes events focused on professional development including business etiquette, digital networking platforms, interview strategies, and graduate school preparation. Placement opportunities are available through student employment fair, graduate school fair, career fair, and individual academic program showcases such as counseling graduate student career fair. Career services conducted 582 consultations in 2016-2017 addressing topics such as graduate school, typology assessments, job search, internship counseling, major advising, mock interviews, rsum reviews, student employment, and other matters. Orientation and new student experiences coordinated 12 orientation sessions serving 648 prospective students for fy17. The office of the dean of students addresses matters concerning alleged misconduct, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution. Pro-active educational initiatives include programming for sexual assault awareness month, domestic violence awareness month, and safe-zone training in addition to publishing prevention and response, which is a title ix resource. Student engagement promotes numerous support services including student organizations, greek life, social programming, and service learning programs. The morton fitness center provides equipment and facilities to encourage wellness and competitive excellence including weight training, cardio, and group fitness classes. During fy17, the center had 15,675 visits from students, faculty, and staff with 384 classes.
housing and resident life: the university offers both traditional and suite-style residence halls on campus with over 600 residents in fall 2016. Each hall offers regular, weekly programming to engage students and stimulate community development. Residence halls have been updated with new flooring, roofs, and clubhouse renovations in west village in addition to new furniture and laundry machines in oc and elizabeth hall. University health services served 193 students. Of those, 81 received the flu vaccine at no additional charge, and 29 tuberculosis tests were conducted. Health services began providing opportunities for first aid/cpr/aed training with 18 certifications issued.
