Programs: Helping deliver leading edge equipment, services and technology, the gleason initiative provides als patients with purpose and the ability to communicate, interact, and be valuable. Technology and equipment have advanced over the past decade but these services can be taken even further. With these advanced tools, we feel that als patients will choose to live extraordinary lives. The gleason initiative works with creative companies like microsoft and tobii dynavox to develop voice creation and hands-free software and technology. The foundation provided $289,255 in financial assistance to the team gleason house at st. Margaret's nursing home. The facility whose construction was funded by the foundation was dedicated in 2015 and provided 1,882 patient days of specialized care to 7 patients in 2017. The foundation maintains contact with als families receiving specialized equipment and recycles the equipment to new patients when the equipment is no longer needed. In 2017, $1,167,200 of such equipment was repurposed to 165 new patients.
