Causes: Emergency Assistance, Human Services
Mission: Supporting kids foundation provides immediate financial assistance to families in the greater kansas city area who have a child diagnosed with pediatric cancer.
Programs: Supporting kids foundation (skf) is an all volunteer organization with twelve (12) board members, ten (10) dedicated volunteers, and forty (40) other volunteers who hold annual fundraising events. Funds from these events are given to families in need to cover day-to-day expenses so they can focus on their child's health, rather than their financial shortfalls. In 2017 the organization gave over $278,624 in assistance to 104 families, of which 63 families received assistance for the first time. Since its inception through 2017, skf has helped 386 families by giving them over $1,025,270 in assistance. This all volunteer organization receives most of its referrals from the children's mercy hospital network and the university of kansas hospital system. Skf helps families with children in the hospital to cover such expenses as rent and mortgage payments, utilities, car payments, repairs, and gasoline. In the most unfortunate cases, skf has paid for a child's funeral expenses.
