14 years ago I adopted a young Thoroughbred from Lori - I was introduced to her rescue through one of my friends and I couldn’t be more thankful for the introduction to the rescue and to Lori, who I count as a very dear friend and I am thankful to know her. Her soul encompasses exactly what Rescue is about: hard work, love, kindness, knowledge, and most of all, compassion for these amazing creatures. She “rights” wrongs that are done to these animals to the very best of her ability, and even just the calm you feel when walking into her barn or even standing in her presence is why the horses flourish in her care. She is not afraid to make the difficult calls and she is the one who is there when no one else is. I am so honored to call her a friend and lucky to still be able to learn from her (both about horses and about life!). I still have the same horse I adopted from her all of those years ago - he is retired now and happy in my backyard. He had a lot of soundness issues and she was VERY up front about what the problems were, etc, and ready to lend an ear and advice when I was missing answers both for him, and any other horse I have come to own, over the years. She also taught me the very important lesson that just because a horse is old, that does NOT mean it is thin. I have posted a photo of my (now) 21 year old, cushings, laminitic, hard keeping thoroughbred - who is anything but thin because she taught me how to properly feed him so many years ago. I cannot give her enough stars!
I run an organization that helps fundraise for small US equine welfare organizations, and this is one of the rescues we support. The director, Lori Yonts, is a veritable font of wisdom regarding equine rescue, and is always willing to go the extra mile to help when an equine is in need. Top notch organization, well worthy of support.
Lori is one of the greatest humans I know. She takes on the rejected and unloved with an unbridled resolve that most of us in rescue lose swiftly. Her organization is one of the toughest to run but one thar is the most needed. We need more of her.
I have been a fan and follower of Sunkissed Acres Rescue and Retirement for many years! I love what they do for animals! Compassion abounds at Sunkissed Acres Rescue and Retirement Inc!
Sunkissed Acres was so helpful to me when I was looking to rehome a rescue horse a few years ago. Wonderful people, wonderful place.
This rescue is a wonderful place for horses. They are loved and taken care of. Sick horses are healed. Lori is wonderful!

Lori is just an amazing Person inside and out. The care she gives these horses is the best. Thank you so much for all you do every day!
This is one of my favorite rescues and a cause close to my heart. Lori and her rescue work tirelessly to help, save and rehabilitate abused horses. I have been a fan for years and have personally visited the farm on multiple occasions. She works miracles on these horses and they are living their best life under her stewardship. Please do not hesitate to support them.
I have been supporting this rescue for many years. It's one of a handful that is truly 100% devoted to supporting and helping those in need. What this rescue does is incredible and I wish many more knew about it and supported her. Lori is the absolute best!
Lori is an amazing person with a heart of gold. She knows the medical needs of these horses and is awesome with their nutrition. She can make the most unhealthy horse look like it had never been starved and she does it in a healthly way for the horses. None of her horses look sick or neglected unless they are brand new to her farm. She is truly one of the most compassionate women I know. I would recommend sunkissed acres to anyone who is in an absolute dire situation, she is always there to help and save!
Sunkissed Acres provides excellent care to the equines residing there. Lori is dedicated to rescuing … all her dogs are rescues: a kitty showed up and now is a resident. She is all about living cohesively with wildlife.
She works very hard with little assistance. She has some amazing people who provide financial support but everything is getting so expensive.

Sun-kissed acres is a great non-profit. They do so many good things I couldn't name them all. I've never met a healer like Lori. She can bring horses back to happy and healthy when I would have swore it couldn't be done. She has dedicated her life to helping the horses. It's a full time job but she spends all her spare time getting it done.
SKA is a well run. Much needed animal rescue for the rural area of GA where it is located.
The proprietor is a highly skilled, experienced horse woman and does whatever is needed to keep her charges healthy and safe.
She does this almost single handed as she has depressingly few volunteers to assist because of her rural location.
This is a rescue worth supporting because of all of the good they do and how needed they are.
I was helping to place the last few horses from a sanctuary that was shutting down in California two years ago. One of the last stragglers who no one wanted was a 36 year old mustang named Monk. I couldn't take any more horses, and I thought about the very short list of people I know who are experts at senior horse care. Lori came to mind and amazingly, she said yes to one more mouth to feed. Some people thought I was crazy to send a horse that age from California to Georgia, but it proved to be 100% the right decision. That little mustang is alive, well, fat and shiny at Sunkissed Acres two years later. Lori puts her heart and soul into the rescue and that's a level of commitment that's tough to find these days. This is absolutely one of the best rescues in the U.S. and it deserves your donations and support.
Wonderful place. Lori takes fabulous care of all the rescues. I personally have one rescue Lori helped me with. He has become simply amazing. I hope to one day help another horse through Sunkissed!
This organization has always helped when find an animal in need . Lori has such a heart for her rescues and retirees. I am always amazed she has so much devotion to this work....more than a full time job, that is for sure.. Thank you for constant care, Lori.
Wonderful people who do a lot with what they have to help animals and the people they come in contact with. We need more people like this in the world!
You won’t find a better home for horses who have been dealt a raw deal in life. Horses, cats, dogs, children and more. Lori has made personal sacrifices to give love to all the above. God will reward her.
Far Exceeds does not even approach it. Lori Yonts has the love, passion and experience to help with horses in dire situations. She cares about sick and pathetic horse I call her about. Never says no, too busy, no funds...etc. Thats it! Best rescue I have ever encountered and I have lived many places. Even gives me needed advice on my 27 yo horse with Cushings and no teeth. Alway hang up feeling better things ahead for starving, disabled animals that she never refuses helping.
I believe whole heatedly in what this organization does and stands for.

I know Lori Yonts personally and have for over a decade; she is that rare breed who puts others, no matter if it is a tiny kitten or a human being, above herself. She is kind, selfless, and if you look up hard working you will see her name and photo. I have seen her rescue horses so weak and neglected they need a tractor and a sling to get them up. I’ve seen her work eighteen hour days and not complain. I’ve seen her give up countless days off because a horse needed her. I have trusted her with my own horses and there is no higher praise from me. Animals at Sunkissed receive not only the best care but love and affection.
Sunkissed acres goes above and beyond to help educate the community on horse care. I have not had to use them on the rescue side but I have used them on the educational side. I had questions that pertained to the nutrition side of caring for a horse. Sunkissed acres horses are full and healthy and started as skin and bones. My horse is now as beautiful as Sunkissed acres horses are thanks to them for having time to talk to me and telling what to do when it came to feed. Lori is an advocate for all horses even if they are not hers and she is only a call away for anyone who needs help with their horse or horses! Great organization and they have worked miracles with their rescues!
Sunkissed Acres assisted with a rescue on a horse seized by Animal Control. After some intense training, they fostered him and found him an amazing home in NC! He is now doing wonderful and competing in long distance endurance races doing both 75 and 100 mile rides and winning! Lori and Sunkissed Acres ensure their placements are appropriate and for life!
Sunkissed Acres does an amazing job with equines (and sometimes other critters) who are elderly, neglected, abused, or sometimes all of the above. The horses are finally able to enjoy the retirement they deserve!
I am the Executive Director of Special Horses, a non profit organization (also a Great NonProfit) whose mission it is to help with fundraising and marketing for in-the-trenches 501(c)(3) equine welfare organizations. Sunkissed Acres is one of the first organizations we helped, and is a major reason why Special Horses was created. They are scrupulously honest and transparent, and they have helped so many equines I have lost count. Lori's knowledge of equine care and rehabilitation is simply amazing, and her facility is top notch. One of the absolute very best. If Sunkissed asks for help from Special Horses, we always say yes.
I have personally gone with Lori, over the last 15 years, to pick up various horses. Many of these situations were unpleasant to say the least but lori knew how to talk to the people. She also has a very good relationship with the department of agriculture and works side by side with other rescues.
Our farm has kept many of the rescues over the years and helped evaluate others to be placed in various situations. The picture below is of Sam. He was left for dead (starved) and Lori, realized he was still breathing and saved his life. He spent a summer here being loved on by my students.
Sunkissed Acres is a true Godsend for the horses that find their way to this sanctuary. Lori’s rescue takes in the neediest horses who otherwise have no hope left. She is an angel, and this organization is boots on the ground, one horse at a time. I cannot day enough positives about Sunkissed Acres. They are the real deal. Saving horses that no one else wants, one horse at a time, then day after day, ensuring their welfare and quality of life. God bless Sunkissed Acres.
Lori is an amazing lady! She always has the best interests of the animals she rescues at heart. She gives 150% of her time, effort, heart, and money to this rescue and its animals, big and small.
I have known Sunkissed Acres for many, many years. I have witnessed the unselfish sacrifices that Lori has made to give many equines a few good years in their retirement. I will always continue to support her endeavors.
I have known Lori now for 14 years. I have personally witnessed the miracle horses she has brought back from the brinks of death. Her dedication to this rescue is ongoing even in the financial and drought worst of times. She works tirelessly 24/7 to give the very best care to these sweet souls. Thank you Lori!
I love seeing all the success stories that come from the dedication to each and every horse that Sunkissed acres acquires or reaches out to help. I have no doubt they are in this for all the right reasons. Each member, volunteer, and contributor to sunkissed acres help create an environment of love and hope.
Excellent rescue. I’ve volunteered there and Lori has everything organized and ship shape. The horses are all well cared for and well loved.

I first encountered Lori about 5 years ago, when I was in a difficult situation with rehoming my ponies. Lori was the only person who reached out with an offer of help. In the end, my problem was solved, (my ponies are safe and sound) but I have always been grateful to Lori for her kindness. And so, I have followed her journey and supported her cause. This world can be a hopeless place for some horses (and animals, in general), but Lori has compassion - and helps whenever she can. The world is definitely a better place for having her and Sunkissed Acres in it.
This rescue really is a sanctuary of dreams for the senior horses that are living out their days. Having volunteered here, I can definitely say that it is all about the animals and they receive the best feed, care of any rescue in NW GA. Definitely amazing care.
Sunkissed acres helped me when i took in a disabled elderly horse. I didnt really know what i was doing but i had the shelter and property to take better care of her than what she was recieving. Lori was very kind and patient with me. She answered my questions and helped me get high calorie hay that my horse needed as she was malnourished as well. Lori goes above and beyond to help the horses and the owners.
I’ve supported and volunteered with Sunkissed Acres for 12 years now and each year that passes makes me more appreciative of the hard work, dedication, responsibility and LOVE that makes this rescue one of the best there is. Thank you Lori, for all that you do for the animals ❤️
I found my heart horse through Sunkissed, and enjoyed every minute with him. I’ve seen many desperate animals find respite here, salvation and adoption or sanctuary, each to their need. Of late, Sunkissed has saved even more by helping their owners with feed and vet care so they can keep their beloved horses even when suffering economic downturns.
If angels walk the earth among us, surely they have been the driving force at Sunkissed!
This rescue does amazing things. Saves many lives not just horses! Nothing but true love on this farm.
Sunkissed Acres is a responsibly run organization that is completely transparent on how donations are used to help save horses from life threatening situations and reports regularly on health and wellbeing of horses under their care.
Sunkissed Acres specializes in horse rescue but in reality they are an "any" animal rescue. If unable to offer homing services themselves Sunkissed will network and assist other rescues on behalf of an animal until it is safe. Animals have all their needs met at Sunkissed acres and if they could talk they would be sure to say they never want to leave this little piece of Heaven on earth.
When I had my horse, I would collect the proof of purchase from Triple Crown feed bags & send them to Lori. Even though I’m not local to Sunkissed, (I’m in NJ), you could easily see the great work she has done with horses that needed more than a little love (and hay, and feed...).
Sunkissed Acres is the real deal. They show compassion for both people and animals. They offer help when they can without humiliation. Sunkissed Acres takes excellent care of the animals in their care.
This equine rescue takes on the hardest cases with heart and soul Located in rural and poor area of Georgia there is, no unfortunately, no end in sight of the poor creatures needing their help.
Lori and the Sunkissed Acres team are the most dedicated bunch of people. The animals are so well taken care of and want for nothing at Sunkissed Acres. We need more animal rescues with as much compassion as Sunkissed Acres.
Wonderful horse rescue in North GA. Always honors the commitment to the horses they rescue. Giving each rescue the personal treatment they need. Also known to rescue animals dogs that may come their way. Lori’s heart is huge!
I have followed Sunkissed Acres for several years on FB. I have watched them, time and again, rescue broken innocents and turn them into beautiful beings. I can’t say enough good things about this rescue.
Wonderful place! I've followed Sunkissed Acres for years and love seeing the incredible improvements that animals have made while under the facility's care!
Lori Yonts, who runs Sunkissed Acres, is a woman of incredible experience and empathy. This rescue is exemplary in its transparency, its care, its contribution to the community. This is the way a rescue should be run.
Sunkissed Acres and Ms. Yonts are wonderful! When I first met Ms. Yonts and said I wanted to visit, she said "come on up." There weren't any sketchy appointments that needed to be made only at certain times on certain days, etc. She only said, "let me know when you're close by so I can be home to meet you." Everything was transparent for this organization. She was more than happy to show me her records when I had mentioned something about donating to legitimate organizations. She introduced me to all of the animals (and people!) at the rescue, and each animal had a story: a retired Grand Prix jumper, a retired racehorse turned slaughter horse turned Olympic-level Eventer, etc. The youngest horse there at the time was twenty-five and looked amazing. The farm is immaculate, and the horses are happy and safe. That was a few years ago. I now try to make regular trips up to visit and lend a helping hand when I can. I would have no qualms donating to nor volunteering for this organization.
I have been a volunteer with Sunkissed Acres since 2008 and am also an adopter. The aminals who find refuge at Sunkissed have come from a number of unfortunate circumstances, from financial distress to unspeakable cruelty. Each and every one of them receives the best care possible, they are thoroughly evaluated for placement, and offered for adoption to carefully screened homes. There isn't a single horse that has come through the gates who is forgotten. Ever. The Director can tell you where each of the hundreds of horses placed in the past decade are and how they are doing. I am proud to be associated with Sunkissed Acres and look forward to many more years of volunteering.
Sunkissed Acres serves as an advocate for animal welfare in a depressed area of the country. Horses are treated with the utmost dignity and care no matter what their situation and many horses (and other animals) have been given a chance through the work and concern of Sunkissed and especially, Lori, who manages the operation. This is a very worthwhile organization for which to contribute and all financial resources go directly to the horses.
