Mission: The mission of the sun valley writers' conference is to bring together readers and writers to celebrate ideas at an annual event anchored by recognized writers of fiction and nonfiction.
Programs: Presentation of writers' conferences to the public has exposed people to established writers, provided assistance to potential writers and has expanded appreciation for the literary world.
fellowships: svwc brought 3 emerging writers to our 4-day annual event in sun valley, id. Not only did these fellows have the opportunity to hear some world-renowned authors speak, but had the unique occasion to associate with some 35 authors in an enriching environment. The 3 fellows also participated in a panel discussion. This session drew some 300 attendees eager to hear from these young writers. Scholarships: in conjunction with the fulfillment fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the performance and potential of young people, svwc provided scholarships to 5 young adults, who were chosen through a competitive process to attend our 4-day event and special events held on their behalf.
svwc opened a walk-in office in ketchum where people can drop by to get information about svwc. Our local staff members visited the 3 high schools to make the students and teachers aware of svwc's policy of free tickets to the main-stage talks and to recruit young volunteers to help out at the annual event for which they receive community service credit. We continued our support to the 3 local libraries by providing cds of the recorded talks from the current year, providing a scholarship for a full conference pass to the head of the library, and tickets to individual talks to library staff, donating books of the current year's authors, and, arranging for two of the svwc 2016 authors to speak at the community library. Svwc provided an additional three local scholarships of full conference passes to local high school students.
