The Children's Lifesaving Foundation

The Children’s Lifesaving Foundation (CLF) is an organization that punches far above its weight in the community. Sean and Francesca work tirelessly to help hundreds of kids throughout the year. From surf camps in the summer to the multiple Christmas parties in which underprivileged children receive multiple gifts, the CLF is relentless in its mission. As a volunteer that has worked with them, I have witnessed this personally. Their dedication, care and love for children is unmatched.

I love this foundation. They do so many cool activities like surf camp, wilderness camp, tutoring and more. They really care about the kids and want them to have the best day ever.

I had and have had the opportunity to be a summer camp leader for the CLF, teaching about the outdoors/nature. And it's always a gift to be there. The staff are helpful, supportive and so very caring. And it's the kids that really shine. They are such a pleasure to teach. Seeing a child's spirit be full of life and joy at the camp is an experience I hope to be a part of for many years.

I had the privilege to volunteer with this non-profit organization this summer. Everyone felt like family. They created such a warm, fun, and friendly environment that it was hard to believe we weren’t characters in an enjoyable movie or family. They had great ideas and the volunteering was a piece of cake because those who really run this must have worked their butt off beforehand and behind the scenes. So, when it came time to volunteer-day, everything was so well organized and carefully planned. We were treated with lunch every day, often so generously, we’d have leftovers to share with the homeless after work. In terms of providing the desired goals for the visiting children, it was outstanding. Kids were laughing and being funny. They looked happy to be there, and the organization had bought thoughtful and useful gifts for us to hand to the children at the end of each day. I could go on all day, but I’ll leave this last point to save the time: they hired a guy who went by “Tracker Rob” who is by far one of the most stellar individuals I have worked with in my life. He put everyone else before him to a massive extent, but very subtly. Maria and Francesca did so as well, and really everyone who was a part of what they designed was fabulous. It was like dreaming a good dream volunteering with this organization, except it was legit! 11/10 BY FAR-the best in LA

I have the pleasure of working with the Children's Life-Saving Foundation, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to enriching and transforming the lives of underserved and homeless children and their families. I worked at their Camp For All Summer program, which allowed me to impact underserved communities positively. Children were able to attend a free camp that was, for many, “the best day of their life.” Working with these children and forming bonds and friendships was very meaningful to me. It taught me the importance of being kind to others and that a little kindness goes a long way. I became friends with many of the children and formed connections with them that truly made their day brighter. Being able to uplift a community and spark joy and happiness has great importance to me, and the Children's Lifesaving Foundation empowers me and many others to do just that.

My daughter has been working with this nonprofit for almost a year now and she has loved every project they have done together. The team at CLF is so encouraging and welcoming. They have shaped my daughter into an amazing philanthropist and we are so excited to continue supporting this amazing organization!

I've been working with CLF since November now, and I am so lucky to have found such a rewarding organization to be a part of. The work that is done at CLF is unlike any other organization I have seen or worked with in the past. CLF sparks fundamental change in a city that is in great need of it. I grew up working with this nonprofit and it has changed my life entirely. It has been an opportunity to grow up with a family that changes so many peoples lives. These families have really become my family.

I started with the children’s Lifesaving Foundation as a volunteer in 1993 and eventually became a camp counselor and then program director! What I love most about the children’s Lifesaving Foundation is how they treat all the children and their parents they work with other sis like family! From giving over 50 scholarships for college and tutoring or students to college age and getting to know them since they were 6 to 8 years old truly is a blessing! It’s amazing to see the results love your work and watching these children and their parents flourish when they become adults starting their own company is getting amazing jobs with major corporations and then coming back in assisting us when they become adults! Everything comes full circle the children’s Lifesaving The Foundation Restaurant Leave changed my life!

I love the mission that The Children's Life Saving Foundation have. The mission to help low income children get education, a stable home where they can stay and live and help remove some of the stress each family is facing. I enjoyed the Camp4Kids, toy drive and backpack drive that I did with The Children's Life Saving Foundation.

As a City Council member and Mayor of Malibu, I had the opportunity to work with The Children's Life Saving Foundation and was extremely impressed with their accomplishments. They worked tirelessly to provide a camp in our area that offered outdoor experiences for disadvantaged and challenged youths. Children's Lifesaving Foundation is a wonderful charity and I recommend that anyone in the LA area volunteer with them! This past summer was my first time volunteering with CLS and I was assisting at their surf camp held at Zuma beach. From the first day I worked there, I was treated like I was part of the CLS family and I think that fact really speaks to their mission and the way CLS conducts its business. We were working with various shelters and youth organizations at the camp, and I could tell the directors Francesca and Sean had a deep connection with each one. They deeply care about the well-being of all kids we help and it's truly inspiring.

I have known Maria for over 25 years now, and she continues to exemplify the best and highest form of humanity! The Children’s Lifesaving Foundation has proven to be all about the kids, doing tireless and effective work to provide at risk kids and their families with financial and physical help, educational scholarships, hope and inspiration. It is a joy to be a part of this ongoing process as a volunteer and donor and committee member, and at this point, a lifelong friend.

For years (at least 10) I have been volunteering and supporting CLF, witnessing first-hand the amazing work they do with these children and families in need. From spectacular holiday events to overnight camps and surf camps at Zuma Beach, and getting first-in-their family to graduate teens college scholarships, the CLF is a great force in LA county towards showing low-income youth and families that there is a way to have the life of their dreams...I have been there with them for 25 years and counting. I love the work they do.

Never have I been able to volunteer with a foundation that is as sincere and as dedicated as CLF. To see a foundation give so much personal attention to each child, and there are many, is amazing. They are truly determined to not leave a single child or family behind and provide the tools to succeed not only in their education but life in general. They continuously take huge steps to create a foundation for a child to find there ultimate goal in life and they do it consistently. This is a foundation I will support for as long as I can simply because of there genuine devotion to staying true to there name.

I first volunteered with CLF at their Surf Camps this summer. I have volunteered at many different non profits but I especially loved their programs for many reasons! Firstly, it is run by extremely compassionate and kind people. Francessca, Sean, David and Maria are all so warm and welcoming; they really made everyone feel like family. They showed up everyday full of enthusiasm! It never felt like "work" because the energy and atmosphere was so lighthearted and fun. I love how the Surf Program is such a direct way to connect and help these families and individuals. You can really see the immediate benefits of their surf program just in the one day they are there. I truly love and respect this organization because I feel that their work is honest, full of compassion and truly making a difference in peoples' lives.

The Children’s Life Saving Foundation is like a second home for me, full of love, laughter and respect. Maria, Fran and Sean are truly angels sent from above. They have done so much not just for me but for everyone that is a part of this great foundation; and for that I’m truly thankful. Many of my great memories are thanks to them. We have great experiences from movie outings, camping in the mountains and surf camp. I've been involved with Children's Lifesaving Foundation since 4th grade, I am now a high school senior. Every year I help organize the arts and crafts at their winter/Christmas party. Two years ago, I helped at their summer beach camp Camp4all. What I think is truly exceptional about Children's Lifesaving Foundation is their dedication to helping as many families and children as they can. Kids go home from the Christmas party with not just one or two toys, but with a huge bag. They provide the opportunities for families to be able to enjoy a day at the beach who would not have the opportunity otherwise.

For the past few years the Children's lifesaving Foundation has invited our youth from Covenant House California to Surf Camp in Zuma Beach. Our youth have had an amazing time some of them learning how to surf or experiencing the beach for the first time. Children's lifesaving Foundation does an amazing job in enriching the lifes of youth through their hard working effort and support. Thank You!!!

“I first met Maria D'Angelo, an extraordinary woman, the day I was born. My teenage mother and I went to live with Maria D’Angelo in her home when I came from the hospital, because my mom had nowhere else to go. The CLF then moved us into our own apartment, when my mom was ready to do so. The CLF did more for me before I could comprehend what exactly it was they were doing and for that I am forever grateful, because I do not know where exactly my family and I would be if it had not been for CLF and everyone involved. I am currently working in a restaurant as a Food Runner/Waiter, as well as attending school at Glendale Community College. I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering with high hopes of attending UCLA or California State Long Beach. One particular goal for the future I have is to be a well-known and well-respected engineer, as well as helping families in similar ways that we were helped.”

"Life has presented me with the amazing gift of opportunity. I have done everything I can to prepare myself for everything that is very soon to come after high school. But I haven't done it alone. Since practically the beginning of my life, or the farthest back I can remember, the Children's Lifesaving Foundation has supported me with, well, a foundation, by being virtually my family, and by being there with help anytime I needed it with homework or life problems. They are so loving and caring, and always have my back, no matter what I choose to do in life. In school however, I have committed myself to as much as I can. My involvement includes Robotics Club, which (I have become president of), Mesa Club, Leadership (a student council that handles all events relating students, I am commissioner of clubs and classes), my school's Academic Decathlon squad, Key Club, Interact club (have become vice president), and a very creative member of Guitar Club. Sometimes these activities are so demanding that I get little sleep but it's all worth it because of the joy it gives. My aspirations in life vary from becoming a computer scientist who creates an incredibly smart artificial intelligence to an entrepreneur who starts a company that lasts through the decades as a corporate monster (the good furry fuzzy kind, not evil). The one thing that they have in common though is that whatever I choose in life, I plan to be great, one of the most amazing people to live up there with the other greats of their times and chosen fields. My journey starts now."

“I began attending The Children's Lifesaving Foundation when I was in 2nd grade. Coming to the United States, I did not know any English. My mother was struggling financially, and it was not until meeting Maria where she found hope for me and my two older brothers. I constantly attended tutoring that they offered, so I could get better in school. They offered me help one-on-one, and I began to feel confident in school. I grew close with the CLF and we became a family. Attending the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation, they helped me reach my goals, and pursue my education further. I soon began to volunteer for them because I wanted to give back to them and the amount of love and support they had for my family.
I'm a senior applying to colleges in and out of states. I want to go to college because I want to be able to pursue my education and advance my studies. I hope to major in Political science. For me college is important because it will open my eyes to many possible doors and I will have an experience of a lifetime,that I don't want to miss out on. In high school, I have done all my best to be able to attend and apply to colleges. I have maintained good grades throughout high school, and taken AP classes to challenge myself. The CLF has played a major role in me wanting to attend college, because they inspire me everyday and have supported me through everything.”

The Children's Lifesavig Foundation is an amazing organization who invited students to various summer activities which they hosted. The activities they provided for our students was an unforgettable and invaluable experience which the students will never forget. CLF is making such a positive impact on the lives of young people in Los Angeles.

I taught a programming workshop for the kids in their program. They support the long-term needs of the families they serve, continuing to tutor and support the children from middle school through college acceptance. Their diverse support offerings include emerging educational trends like computer programming to give their underprivileged sector some of the same educational benefits of more privileged families.

The CLF is such an amazing gift for the families they help. As a volunteer I see the smiles and the love that these children feel when perhaps they may have just been another kid falling through the cracks. I see them shine. Big Praise for everyone at the children's lifesaving foundation!

It's clear to me that a one-to-one relationship with an at-risk child is the best way to make a difference in their life. As a volunteer tutor with the CLF, the results of your efforts are immediately seen as you build a trusting and lasting relationship with these children. I can only hope that something I said or did could be a turning point for just one child.

As Christian I can say that the action you are doing to save the life of hopeless people like Rushimisha Boutroce in Rwanda Almighty God recommended us to do so , Unfortunately the limitation of resources . He told to write this review to witness the Contribution of Children's life saving in his life .

What you have to know , he left his family in Congo because of war , he met our Church as you know the Genocide in 1994 in Rwanda has caused many damage in our Country none could help him. But he prayed a lot , that's why God heard his prayers and gave him the sponsor .

With out Maria D'Angelo and the CLF my family would still be living in shelters and hotels. They showed us compassion and kindness when the world was kicking us down. They gave me and my sister a brighter future keeping us away from turning to the wrong decisions by keeping us busy with positive activities. I remember going to Disneyland and the circle x ranch. I will never forget Children's life saving till the end of my life. The reason why : They found me from despair, hopeless but now I am studying at best University here Rwanda/Africa through Children's Life Saving fund . My life has changed and now I have hope that my future will be bright than today . They gave me whatever I need in order to succeed in my studies .

I have many things to say about this organization , but God only knows what's deep in my heart .

O.K. - take an Italian immigrant with a heart of gold; then add her wonderful children; and then add staff and what do you get - The most giving and thoughtful people who believe in giving back to humanity through service to others. I've been blessed to have been involved with this organization for over eight years now. Not only do they offer a full range of services to families but also instill a strong sense of hope and the intrinsic value of each person being served. Just imagine what it's like for a child to attend camp; hear great live music; receive one on one tutorials for schoolwork; and have a warm meal. There is no greater gift that what the CLF provides. Congrats to this organization that has been serving the community for over 20 years!

As a mother of four children they were my only support When I was in the most need. with their support my family and I can survived the most worst situation, I received food, cloths, entertaining and money.

I have been involved with this organization for about 18 years. I especially like knowing that donations are spent on the needy students and families that they work with, and very very little on overhead. I also like that those that volunteer are there for the sincerest reasons. The woman who runs the organization, Maria D'Angelo is a true Angel on Earth. Her desire to help the families is so genuine and contagious that there isn't a person who knows her who doesn't love and admire her. She inspires the volunteers to get involved on a very personal level which is rewarding to not only the families being helped, but the volunteers as well. Maria's daughter Franscesca and son Sean help her run the Foundation and are tireless in their dedication to the families they help. A remarkeable organization because of the family and volunteers that run it.

I have seen first-hand how the Children's Lifesaving Foundation's changes children's lives. They ensure that their students get a good education, and learn to appreciate and care for that education. They give the children in their Camp4All program, the students they tutor and their families hope, self esteem and the tools to improve their lives. It is always a joy volunteering with them, and I look forward to doing it again this year! :)

I have been volunteering with the CLF for the past 6 months as a tutor, helping kids with their homework. Typically, I am helping kids in the 1st-5th grade. It's very satisfying to make a connection with a child. There is a trust factor that needs to be established by the child with the tutor. It helps for them to like you and enjoy working with you. It's my challenge to make the learning fun and memorable. I want the kids to truly look forward to seeing me, and when they run up to me and say hi or give me a hug, I know it's authentic and I know I am making a difference in their lives.

These kids are like any other kids. They need love, attention and to learn how to focus on their studies. Through this program, these children are gaining confidence, excelling in their studies, and moving on to become productive citizens.

Volunteers are always needed. Come and make a lifetime connection.

I have volunteered with this amazing organization for the last 15 years. They are the kindest most giving people you will ever meet. The lives they have touched and saved is extrodinary. Maria and her children have created a safe haven for all the blessed children that have been helped by this wonderful organization. I could not see myself where I am right now without the help of The Children’s Life-Saving Foundation. I have been involved with this non-profit since I was in 6th grade in middle school. I barely had being in this country for about a year. I started middle school with fear, and not speaking English.
Through my friend Angel Carrasco, whom I lived with in the same apartment structure shared with me the experience of The Children’s Life-Saving Foundation. I started going, and in the first say I was in love. I was welcomed with warmth as if they had seen me grow up since day one. They treated my as part of their family, and were always sincerely caring about me. It was not a regular after school program; I was actually going to my second home. Maria De Angelo genuinely, and with her whole heart cared about my future. Every time she asked me “how my day was”, she wanted to know if everything was going good in school, and outside of school. Her motherly love for me made me feel proud, and gave me strength to pursue a higher education.
Sean McCaffery, is one of the most amazing persons in The Children’s Life-Saving Foundation. You can look up to him as your big brother, and even a dad. He is there for you when you need him. He is fun, loving and cares for you. If you’re feeling down, he will find a way to cheer you up. Francesca McCaffery, another amazing person at The Children’s Life-Saving Foundation. It is because of her I have a passion for the arts, and I’m majoring in film-making. She introduced me to opportunities in photography, and film. It was Francesca that guided me, and showed me to different opportunities that further my education, and future. The amount of gratitude I have for her involvement in my life is tremendous.
I would not be in the same place I am now without the support of The Children’s Life-Saving Foundation. They do so much work to support the lives of youth, encouraging them to pursue their dreams. They believed in me, and still do. Their encouragement makes a difference, and impacts the lives of many children. I am glad, and feel grateful to have being part of The Children’s Life-Saving Foundation. Thanks to them I want to continue my education, and follow my dreams, and contribute back to all their help I’ve received. Through them, I realized the importance of working with the community, and the impact one can have on others lives.

My name is Jasmin Romero, age 19. When I was 11, I was introduced to the loving founders of The Children's Lifesaving Foundation, Maria De Angelo, Sean, and Francessca. My first memory I have of Maria goes back to the very first day I met her. I made my way up the stairs to find Maria standing with open arms , waiting to embrace me.
She kissed me on my cheek and welcomed me to the program, and most importantly the family.
That's what we are, a huge family that helps out others and we help eachother out. I instantly became part of the Care Through College Program, which in basic terms, provides tutors, school supplies, support and guidance throughout High School and College. The program also includes surfing lessons every summer at Zuma beach, which is well known for its waves. We also go out to movie outings, and numerous of field trips that include The Aquarium of the Pacific, overnight camping trips, birthday celebrations at numerous of restaurants and much more.
I was part of the program since 6th grade, and I continue to take part in the events and outings we attend. I graduated on time for the class of 2012, and I had the support of my family, "CLF," along the way. My journey of course didnt end there. I am now part of the scholarship program, and i volunteer to help spread the word and good cause that The Children's Lifesaving Foundation participates in. Just last March, we had the opportunity have an article printed in People Magazine, with Maria De Angelo honored as, "Heros Amoung Us." A few of those who part take in the Foundation, including myself, had a photoshoot and a quoted article. An addition of the article was recently added with more filling stories about our giving program. I couldn't be more greatful to take part and be part of the CLF. Francesca, who I adore with all my heart, helped me with college by finding amazing sponsors to help us students pay for our tuition. Sean of course is my hero, and is a fatherly role model and I can always trust and speak to him when I need someone to run to. Without Maria, I don't know what I would be up to or doing with my life right now. I came to her as a complete stranger, and I now see her as my fairy godmother, and role model. She understood my problems at home with my fear of not attending college due to my father's Kidney Faliure and transplant. Thankfully, he is now as health as a horse, but Maria never stopped believing in me and she continues to support me and guide me through life. I love them all very much, and thanks to them, I am now doing my second year of college. Like I stated in the People Magazine article, " I owe my world to Maria." I couldn't be more greatful for the amazing family I was blessed with. I will never leave the foundation, for the day I complete my Bachlores in Science and proceed to become a Midwife, I will give back to those who have given so much to me, Maria and the Children's Lifesaving Foundation.

I've had the honor of knowing The Children's Life Saving Foundation over the past six years and the incredible work that Maria D'Angelo and her children and staff have provided to homeless families. This organization not only provides a home for it's residents but just as importantly provides needed support and educational services. The organization instills hope in the lives of those it has touched and an opportunity to help families and children see a brighter future. I am so impressed by the life skills this program provides to both parents and children. As the old saying goes "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give." (W. Churhill). I am Valentino, Childrens Lifesaving Foundation is amazing, because they are nice. They give us lots of gifts that are incredibly awesome. They help you a lot with school and homework. I like that they have great hearts! I like when it's Christmas, because we get gifts from Santa Claus.

We have had the pleasure and priviledge of working with CLF for many years. We participate in the Holiday events that they hold every year for kids and families. Each year they bring in hundreds of kids from inner city areas for a day of fun, games and, of course, a visit from Santa himself! For many of the children who receive special gifts during these events these will be the only gifts they receive. In addition to these events there are so many more that help families and children by providing financial and emotional support. They have learning centers and camps that allow kids to enter into a network of caring volunteers and staff who support, mentor and foster positivity throughout their lives. We blessed and honored to be able to be a part of some of these great events. Such a worthwhile organization!

Another amazing story,another amazing experience!!!!!!! as a single mom aged 55,who lost her professional job this past year and raising an 8 year old...I feel so fortunate to be involved with my current transitional living housing progam and had the experience of my life last Sunday Surfing at Zuma Beach .Yes that was me 55 with two hip replacements flipping off the board and having the time of my life.and yes,I did stand up!!!!and so did my 8 year old ,Macayla, who is now determined to be a great surfer one day.Thanks for this wonderful foundation,Children Lifesaving Foundation to provide memories never to be forgotten to children (and adults)who would never experience the closeness to the ocean under wonderful, loving caring instructors and staff.What a success they are and role model for hands on enlightment to those not so fortunate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MAJOR KUDOS IN SUPPORT OF Maria D'Angelo and founder..
