Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Education, Educational Services, International, International Academic Exchange, Promotion of International Understanding, Youth Development

Mission: Students Helping Street Kids International was founded in 1997 to bring global education and community service together by enlisting the help of U.S. students (k-university) and others to fund scholarships for impoverished kids living in the streets and shantytowns of the developing world (currently Brazil & Tanzania) to study in their own communities. The lives of the scholarship recipients are profoundly and forever changed, while the sponsoring students are learning to show compassion and kindness to those less fortunate than themselves. Also, they are expanding their worldview and promoting world peace through this "kids-helping-kids" program, which fosters cross-cultural exchange, social awareness and responsibility as a caring member of the world community.
