Causes: Education
Mission: The student advocacy center of michigan works collaboratively with under served students, and their families, to stay in school, realize their rights to a quality public education, grow and experience success.
Programs: Education advocacy and support: advocates are available to help students in both general and special education with issues such as school discipline, special education needs, school enrollment, and behavior interventions and support. Using what we learn from each case, student advocacy center also works together with families, students and community partners to affect system-level changes.
education mentoring: we use the evidence based check and connect model to provide intensive, long-term support for youth who are disengaged from learning. The check and connect advocate/mentor/coach connects with youth, checks school engagement data, designs personalized interventions based on that data, encourages goal-setting and problem-solving, and serves as a bridge between the student, school, parent(s)/guardian(s) and community.
